Clive always wanted to make Rowan (and this was the same with Callie too) know that he could always talk to him if he ever needed to. Cousins or not, if the Pastor couldn’t or wouldn’t understand him, Clive sure as hell would make sure that Rowan knew that his Uncle-Cousin Clive would. Not too trigger-happy with his fists but he had a temper. Or at least, he was quick to anger. Never jealous but never not jealous either. He was something of a territorial jerkass. Kent and prison calmed him down, centered him into the mostly peaceful man he was now. He had a lot to lose now. Now, he couldn’t afford to lose his temper. He has to remember that and finding things to channel whatever bouts of anger may come up has kept him in line these last few months. On a personal level, Clive is quite charming and has effectively gotten everyone who has met him to like him. He has a very low-maintinence approach when talking to people. He seems approachable and 80% of the time he is. He might look like a lumberjack and if you get an axe in his hand, sure he might actually live up to that stereotype, but he’s actually not that scary. He just likes to work out and keep a full beard. Romantically, well it depends on who you ask. One jilted lover 20 years ago whom he slept with just to get back at his brother and family might say he’s a jerk. He might even have a reputation around town from his youth, but the honest to god’s truth is that he’s a sensitive soul who went down a dark path when he was younger. He loves deeply and fully, yet when you really get down to it, it’s hard for him to open up. Many failed relationships have just left him feeling a tad uninterested in relationships. But there is a small glimmer of hope that someone might change his mind. He’d love to give his parents grandchildren that aren’t from the poisonous tree of his little brother.
[sub]History:[/sub]
Clive Evermore’s story is one of an heir apparent to an old, honorable dynasty of Pine Holler, one of disappointment, and then one of a journey back to glory. It starts with the Evermore Family themselves. Their history dates back to the old west and maybe even all the way back to the time of the Thirteen Colonies. Their origins get murky around the 1840s but what is known is that they came to what would become Pine Holler sometime in the 1860s, established themselves and have been a mainstay in the history of the town as early as the 1870s. Originally, Jeb Evermore, short for Jebediah, started a risky business but it would span into what is now known as Evermore Construction and Landscaping - or simply Evermore Construction. It has been responsible for the development, upkeep, and eventual expansion as more came into Pine Holler, of the town. This means roads, buildings, and everything in-between have fallen under the responsibility of the Evermore family and all those who work for the family business. Over the years, members of the Evermore family have held jobs in other avenues of business. Even had a member as mayor back in the 1970s. Actually, that would be Clive’s father, who retired from the role twenty years ago only to take over the role as CEO of Evermore Construction. This is where we start to see Clive’s story. Clive’s life has always been a mixed bag. Full of expectation, love of family, and a certain duty was placed on his shoulders since an early age. The legacy of his family and him being the oldest of three siblings made it apparent that when he was at a certain age, he would be groomed to take up the family business. He even worked minor tasks when he was just thirteen at construction sites or just learned how to repair a light or patch in holes in the roads. Really, anything that felt useful, his father, Gerry, felt like he needed to know. So whether out of rebellion or having different ideas for his life, Clive started to change the way he acted. He started to stay out longer, get involved with people that maybe he shouldn’t, and eventually, he hooked up with his brother’s girlfriend. Why? Because it was something that the oldest wouldn’t do. And because he knew she had the hots for him. He hurt her but his goal was to hurt his family more. He didn’t want to work for the family and he didn’t want to be this heir apparent. He didn’t care about the family business. Let Wayne take it. Tensions between him and his family only grew then. Clive moved out of the family home on Miner Street and bunked with Cliff for a while until he got his own place in the park and around age 20, he joined the Black Dogs. Kent McIntyre, who was President at that time, took him in. Clive had the fire and energy to be a valuable member. He served as a prospect until age 22 when he became a full patch member. This was his calling. Not inheriting the family business, not being the golden son, but rather a black dog, someone who can protect and have honor but it comes with far less baggage. Still, he rarely spoke to his family -- well, at least his father and younger brother. They would see each other occasionally. It’s a small town. Hard to avoid everyone for long. Tensions were still high, though, so Clive doubted that he would be invited over for sunday dinner every week. Instead, he would go over for holidays. His brother still hated him for a lot of reasons but Gerry was, at the very least, civil whenever he came over. His mother and Rose, however, were still quite fond of him. Rose in particular, his baby sister - the crowning jewel of Evermore. She was about ten years younger than he was, so when he left, she was still just a little girl who didn’t quite understand everything that was happening. As she grew up and came to understand the burden of being an Evermore, she understood why Clive left. During his time with the Black Dogs, Clive rose up the ranks and became VP to Kent. Known far and wide as Black Sheep, he helped drive the community efforts of the Black Dogs. They were secondary law enforcement minus the official guns and badges, always offering a helping hand to those who wanted it. Most of the time, that involved escorting victims of abuse to the court for hearings, standing guard outside of their window if they were scared, or just having an open door policy for repairs on cars in case Jennings Automotive is full. Of course, it didn’t hurt that the VP of the Black Dogs was childhood friends with Cliff Jennings, so acting as a secondary autoshop didn’t hurt. And also, they would send half of the proceeds to jennings. It was only fair. Truly, Clive had found a home at the Black Dogs and was truly happy. So that’s what made it especially shitty when Kent had a moment of temper weakness when he got into a nasty bar fight that landed several men in the hospital and one in critical condition. They all lived and nobody died, but the damage had been done and authorities needed someone. They were sympathetic to the Black Dogs and appreciated everything they did for the community but they needed to save face. So during a club meeting, it was decided 5-4. Clive would step up and take whatever punishment he needed. A full twelve years was thrown at him. At 33, Clive went in expecting to be out when he was 45, but good behavior, some Black Dogs pull with the DOC, and a little bit of luck got Clive out in just five years. But a lot changed in those five years. Kent died and left everything he had to some blonde widow, CEOs of big land developments are targetting Pine Holler, and Clive had to adjust to new life. He thankfully found work as a volunteer firefighter until he felt like he was ready to resume responsibilities as VP..or would he be President now? That remained to be seen. And then there was the matter with his family and how their business is threatened with everything that’s happening. Clive was just thankful for the simple gateway drug he found. Lou’s Diner, their ass-terrible cup of joe but it tasted like home, and a blonde waitress that made his mornings start out right. It was the simple luxuries that kept him sane, yet he couldn’t help but feel a tense feeling up his spine. Nothing good can come with change.
[sub]Extra Facts // Headcannons:[/sub] How does your character feel about the expansion/growth of Pines Holler? Clive has been out of the loop for a while, but in the few months he’s been out of prison, all that he’s heard about it makes him feel uneasy. And then there’s the matter that his family’s business, a business that has sustained itself for a little over a century, is being threatened by the forced expansion of Pine Holler. 🌳 Clive’s main hobbies include hiking, hunting, and anything about the outdoors. Even just building something from scratch. He just loves being outdoors and taking in nature. 🌳 Country is in his soul. Johnny Cash. Willy Nelson. Waylon Jennings. Even the likes of Dolly. Old school country is the only way to go. None of that arena country or false country. 🌳 Rides a green Harley-Davidson Dyna Superglide. He also has an old pickup he uses when he’s going into the mountains. He has a manmade shelter up there. 🌳 Loves to cook and can do it well. Especially post-prison, Clive has learned to make anything edible even if ingredients are scarce and lately, they have been. If he’s lucky, he’ll be able to make pulled pork or beef or chicken sandwiches. 🌳 Clive holds an honorary membership with the Black Dogs and still has his ink to prove it, but he hasn’t rejoined in an official capacity. Though, he regularly hangs around the clubhouse and sees a lot of promise in Boone. 🌳 He’s a mainstay at Lou’s Diner and Waffle House. Lou’s diner has the best breakfast in town and the company he keeps isn’t bad either. 🌳 Clive is somewhat religious. He has his battles with the church and god, but he still considers himself a believer and will attend service every Sunday morning.
