Character sheet is ready! Unstable man for an unstable world, seems fitting enough!
Name:
Grayson Ignacio
State: Witness Personality: Before witnessing whatever lurked outside, Grayson was a quiet, cold, and castaway loner, who was kind enough when you talked to him. Now, however, he is loud, inconsiderate, and rude to those who appear at his doorstep unannounced after his mutation. His previous struggles with mental health have worsened because of his condition, making him extremely erratic and easy to agitate. His room is absolutely filthy, and he smells like a walking corpse and booze. He copes with his condition by remaining aloof to his disfigurations, along with heavy substance abuse. There's no telling if this is slowing down his mutations or making them worse. Appearance: Despite smelling foul and generally being disheveled, he continues to take great pride in vanity- often adjusting his appearance and owning an expensive car he still has yet to pay off. His hair is surprisingly well-kept, dark brown, and his bangs form a veil over his eyes. Many of his clothes now have unnatural tears and smell potently of cologne. Because of Grayson's mutation, his skin now dons a bluish-purple hue across his body. His love for metal and punk music is often displayed on graphic tees throughout a wide roster of bands. Grayson does his best, albeit poorly, conceal his transformations from any neighbours unfortunate enough to walk past his trash-mountain of a bedroom. One of his arms has become severely mangled by an assortment of sound equipment wires, plugs, and broken guitar strings extending from his wrist and fingertips- almost clawlike and extending well beyond brushing the floor. His eyes, while normally concealed, are actually nonexistent and replaced with cold, dead speaker-like machines that have an incredibly unnerving presence to those who witness what lurks behind his silky hair. Most notable are the large box-like lumps protruding from his chest and side. These appear to be large, unidentifiable sound-related machines fused into his body. His entire body is riddled with sockets that oddly fit for guitars, amps, and other plugs. Grayson constantly emits a low static noise. Biography: Once thought to be a quiet yet kind soul known for attending local bar shows on bass guitar, Grayson had almost always been considered a shut-in by his neighbors. They would say hi to the guitarist on his way to practices in the hallway, or try to strike up a conversation from time to time, but the boy was so closed off and distant that most attempts to talk to him would end with a very warm smile. They thought of him as a gentle soul, despite limited interactions. The truth is that Grayson battled with a host of mental issues he didn't feel comfortable letting people label him as, including but not limited to Depression, Schizophrenia, and Paranoia. Every day was a constant battle with himself, and even though he was winning, making friends was always difficult for him. Despite that, he was happy with his life. His bandmates made for great friends, he and his girlfriend had been going steady for three years, and he made good money from the gigs he went to, allowing him to only need work part-time at the local laundromat. Other than his mental issues and bad financial decisions, Grayson had an alright life. Grayson felt like he had finally started hitting a really good streak. He had people he held dear to him, two jobs that made him enough money to get by, and had recently received news that a talent agent had gone to one of his recent gigs and wanted to recruit his band to a label. His hard work felt like it was really paying off, and since he had just earned enough money for rent, that meant he could refill his medication for the month. When the mysterious event outside first started, Grayson had made plans early in the morning to get his medication. Plans that had been violently cancelled once he received a panicked phonecall from one of his bandmates. His voice was... wrong; garbled and muffled. Most of what he said didn't even make sense, and all that Grayson could make out before the call being abandoned was a warning. Do NOT look outside. So now what? Was Grayson just supposed to let his mind rot away in his cramped apartment? Or was this all just a hoax set up by his bandmate to startle him? Grayson really needed to go and get his medicine, but his friend sounded so panicked and... odd. What the hell was going on? He supposed all he could do was wait until he heard other news; he trusted his friend. But he wasn't going to prepare for such a stressful event without a little pick-me-up. It was only a matter of minutes before the guitarist drank the last of the alcohol he owned. Hopefully, this all blows over so that he can go get his medicine. Though Grayson wasn't thinking in his drunken state. He was incredibly clumsy, and any furniture he attempted to move in front of to hold the curtains in place required extra calculation, as the alcohol in his system slowed him down. He carried one of his larger amps to move in front of his bedroom curtains and mistakenly dropped it on his foot, causing him to jolt back in pain and knock over the unstable equipment, ripping the curtain AND blinds off the wall at the screws. There was nothing he could do. He tried his best to close his eyes in time before the light of the night sky made contact with his retinas, but still, with his window completely exposed, it was impossible to avoid looking at it for a split second. For a moment, it felt like his medication had suddenly stopped working, as if every overwhelming feeling he had ever felt from his mental illness clicked at once. The sounds, the faces, the colors, everything became overwhelming. Grayson began screaming wildly as he rushed his way out of his bedroom, looking for something, anything to relieve himself of all the sensations. His bandmate must have been right, because looking outside... The stress was unbearable, and the more Grayson even considered entering his bedroom again, the more he could feel his heartrate spike. He tore through his room's storage, rapidly undoing his recent organization and cleaning. Clutter had scattered everywhere as he clutched the last of his pills eagerly, taking the recommended dose- despite having already done so today. He just hoped that these would help him calm down in a couple of minutes, because quite frankly... He almost wishes he could tear his own eyes out after even a second of peering out his window. Talents: "See-No-Evil" - Whether as a result of his horrific mutation or by self-mutilation after seeing the sky, Grayson's eyes have been completely removed from his head and replaced with odd growths of machines that release frequent sound, providing The Recluse with unnatural echolocation abilities. If his sound gets muted, he'll be completely without vision. His range of echolocation can also only work as far as he is loud. However, he is now able to see in dark areas with ease and can utilize echoes to reach beyond where his volume allows. Exposed Wires - Grayson's right arm has been entirely replaced by a horrific conglomeration of sound equipment, guitar splinters, flesh, and syringes, which drags along the floor from its weight and length. The shape of it vaguely resembles an arm, allowing him to continue using it clumsily, along with the tips of the hand-like appendage, which are sharp enough from the twisted components to form claws. The long appendage makes up for what it loses in motor function, in the new utility it provides for combat, and mobility. Attacking with his exposed wires can lacerate soft enough flesh, causing bleeding, and he can attempt to wrap around enemies to momentarily tangle them. Intoxication Rage - While Grayson insists they help his "condition", it's impossible to ignore how drugs and alcohol affect the guitarist's mental state after using them. After consuming enough illicit substances, Grayson becomes filled with uncontrollable adrenaline, amplified by his deranged mental state from looking outside, providing him with significantly increased attack prowess. However, unable to control the static noise that gives him echolocation, he completely loses vision until his anger subsides. Sound Amp - The large machines growing from Grayson's chest can be used to amplify sound, so long as a sound device is plugged into one of the disgusting holes scattered across Grayson's bluing flesh. Grayson can plug his exposed wires into himself to amplify the static noise playing from his eyes, causing a screeching feedback that can damage hearing in those with sensitive ears, or irreparably damage simple devices that recognize audio (sound-engaged lights/locks, remotes, microphones, etc) Shut-In - Even before looking outside of his window, Grayson was a bit of a recluse; only talking to his bandmates and girlfriend. While he is capable of traveling outside of his apartment, there's still nothing better than staying home all day, eating snacks, and writing music. Grayson's mental state is best in the confines of his own walls, and will improve drastically after each return. Musician - Even though he is only a bass player for his band, Grayson is incredibly musically adept, giving him general knowledge on anything music-related, and providing an excellent means for entertainment despite his new form, so long as his audience doesn't mind his mutations.
Weaknesses Erratic - Grayson's mood is almost always unstable as a result of his mutation, shifting between dramatic changes in his feelings and personality. It would take a serious amount of compassion and patience to form a friendship with him. Junkie - Having lost control of his life after the sky became dangerous to look at, Grayson's addiction to drugs and alcohol worsened, leading to further changes to his mood, both when sober and intoxicated. There's no telling how his mutation would react if he stopped. Loud - Grayson must always emit a noise in order for him to see, so being silent is nearly impossible for him without something to dampen his eyes with. Also, he's just ordinary loud too. Ignorant - In an attempt to "slow" his mutations down, Grayson refuses to acknowledge his condition and hides it to the best of his ability. He is aware that something is wrong with him, but pressuring the topic often results in anger. Blind - After gouging his eyes out in an attempt to unsee whatever lurked outside his curtains, Grayson lost complete ordinary sight and now relies on his mutation to see. A super-cool concept I'd be excited to explore.
