He is a trusted asset to the King and the nobility as a whole, having been employed under the royal family since his teenage years. Hywel enlisted himself into Thorne’s military at age fifteen after he claimed he was two years older, and has been employed by the family ever since. First tasked in a low ranking position of assisting officers, Hywel later served five years as an aide-de-camp to lieutenants and high ranking officers of the King after intercepting an assassination attempt upon Thorne, earning both his Majesty’s recognition and trust. Once the King’s former head guard had fallen too ill to be of service Hywel was then appointed the role. Over the years, Hywel earned the favor of the King for exposing treason and conspirators, whether it was by a foreign interloper or conspiracy amongst his own men. For the past decade, Hywel has been at Thorne’s side to protect and shield him from attempts at assassination or deception from his councilmen. He also works as a second pair of eyes and ears for Thorne, reporting anything and everything that could benefit the King. Despite his roots in a neighboring country / foreign kingdom, Hywel earned the trust of the King by denouncing his heritage and proclaiming life-long loyalty to the Crown and His descendents. Because of this, Hywel made an oath to never marry, have a family, or be otherwise distracted from his station as head guard, an oath that has remained intact since swearing into Thorne’s inner circle. Despite his proximity to the King, Hywel has had limited interaction with Griffin over the years and is a man of little words unless spoken to. Despite this, he considers Griffin as an extension of his father, the King, and thereby is just as loyal to protect and defend Thorne’s legacy, even if there is little common ground between himself and the Prince. Hywel finds the Prince to be naive in his worldview, though he has never belittled him for his empathy. From afar, Hywel is somewhat charmed by Griffin’s emboldened personality and ability to speak his mind, though this is more out of personal amusement than it is in any sort of true agreement. Griffin’s strong will and passionate personality are all things Hywel sees as potential and promise in a future ruler.
