The Blacksmiths' Chronicles: Chapter 1; Landing
Ollie Peirce woke up on the coast, shoreline as far as the eye could see in either direction. For a moment he wondered how he got there, wondering if a tsunami could've washed him here. However he quickly dismissed that idea, as a tsunami most likely wouldn't've taken off his clothes. Additionally, the fact that only driftwood was on this coast, Disproved that, for if something like that brought him here, then there would be other detritus on the beach, and there wasn't. However, he didn't see any boats, or hear any sign of civilization. Finally he concluded that one of 2 things must have happened. Either someone kidnapped him and dumped him here, or magic most likely is real, and that is what caused this. 'But the question remains' he muttered to himself 'where am I?' He saw a stream/river flowing out into the sea, and after a quick taste it turned out to be freshwater, and he decided to follow it. He had not gone very far however, when someone called out to him, in a language he had never heard before? And yet he understood them clearly, saying "Hello, Over there!" "Hello, Sir, Where am I? And who are you?" said, Olliver deciding that he didn't have anything to loose. The man walked closer, though still a bit off "How do you know not where you are? And I am Falindos.". Olliver notices the man getting closer, and hops into the water above his waist. And He quickly decides that telling a lie, is probably best for now. "I was a passenger on a boat, the last thing I remember is the captain ordering all passengers below. I believe that the storm, which shipwrecked the boat carried me here" "Now that is a sad tale." The man said as he got closer looking down upon Olliver and, noticing that he is in the river "Why are you in the river, man? Can you not greet me on land, are you some creature of the deep?" "No,no,no!" Olliver said anxiously, not wanting the stranger ('Falindos' he corrected himself mentally) to get the wrong idea. "I woke up on the coast, not very long ago, in nothing except the skin with which I was born." "Ah, Take my cloak then, and robe yourself" He turns around after handing Olliver the cloak Before, Falindos was either a distance away, or Olliver was in the water, so an accurate estimation of Falindos' hight was impossible, now, however, Olliver could see that Falindos stood head and shoulders above him, literally. 'He is probably about 5 foot 8 or 9' Olliver thought. His cloak, which reached around the knees for him, draped down to Olliver's feet, and brushed the floor "You can turn around now Falindos." Olliver said after stepping out of the water and wrapping the cloak around him. "My name is Olliver Ainsley. " Falindos turns around and looks straight ahead for a second, before looking down at Olliver, as he thought that the reason Olliver looked short was the distance, or that he was in the water. No full grown man could be this short, and yet here was one. "You speak like a man, have the face of a man, but the height of a child, how can this be?" "It is simply who, and how I am Falindos." Olliver replied calmly, getting many such reactions before. "But please inform me of where I am." "Ah, yes," Falindos replied, taken a bit aback, but collecting himself "You are on the Isle of Crete,a few hours journey from the capital, Knossos. I was out here to hunt, I already have caught some fish, so we will head back" He slings the net that was held by his right hand over his shoulder, and starts to walk along the coast. Olliver follows, wondering what Knostos looks like, and he is surprised that it isn't along the freshwater river he saw, until they reach a path, do a U turn, and start cutting diagonally inland. Falindos decides to break the silence "Olliver, what is your profession?" Falindos inquired, then continued feeling the need to explain. "For it is clear by your hands, that you are not of the nobility. I wish to know so that you may find temporary employment here, pending your return home" "I am a blacksmith, I work and mold metal, into daggers and such." Seeing no sign of an advanced civilization, and if he really is on Crete, he is pretty sure that Knossos was the ancient capital, as it was controlled by Greece in the modern day. He decides to not mention anything about firearms.
