His parents were rich, and from a young age he was constantly surrounded by the LA and Hollywood lifestyle that the media tended to glamorize much to his detriment. His parents, while financially supportive of him and his medical bills, were extremely emotionally distant and the second Rex was able to make it big as a musician, he cut contact with them entirely before they could exploit him for money. Now, he overcompensates his insecurities and flaws with overperforming and aggression, burying himself into his work ( glam rock/metal, rockstar excess, money, ect. ) even at the cost of any potential relationships... his band or otherwise.
