An easy work around this is to treat it like wikipedia. Use superscript/[code][sup][/code] with a list below the post. I'm certain you could beautify it up a tad, but to give a rough example:

[color=red]"Sumthin' like diss."[/color] [sup]1[/sup] He suggested.
[hr][sup]1[/sup] "Something like this."
