Lieutenant Commander: assistant commander of the ship, and commands when the captain is not aboard.
Chief Navigator: responsible for plotting the course of the ship and managing faster-than-light jumps.
Commander of the Engineering Department: responsible for overseeing the ship's nuclear propulsion systems.
Commander of the Gunnery Department: responsible for directing the ship's guns in battle.
[s]Commander of the Marine Contingent: responsible for commanding the ship's marines, and is very important for planetside missions.[/s]
Commander of the Medical Department: responsible for overseeing the ship's medical bay.
Commander of the Science Department: responsible for the ship's scientists and all scientific research.
Commander of the Starfighter Squadron: commands the ship's squadron of starfighters

Biography: Arthur Fitzgerald was born on the British colony world of Victoria to an Irish Catholic family. Victoria, a farming world dominated by a single large supercontinent, proved quite popular with Irish settlers. Arthur's father was determined that he become a doctor, but Arthur wanted to seek a naval career, and the two compromised, with Arthur becoming a naval doctor.

Arthur proved to be a brilliant surgeon, and his talents were noticed, as he has become the chief medical officer aboard the [i]Intrepid[/i].
He's an excellent doctor with a good bedside manner, and is particularly adept at getting rowdy sailors and marines to comply with "doctor's orders."
