Major D. Ranshaw Age: 39 | Nationality: British | Birthplace: Olympus, Martian Capital | Position: Marine Commander Bio: Major Ranshaw is stern, stoic, and may seem cold to most. But he is held in high regard among his marines. While he is capable of friendliness and jokes with his men, he is more known for his serious attitude and laser focus precision. He is not a man to mess about. Born as an interplanetary citizen of the British crown, Ranshaw started life a step-up. His family held a comfortable administrative position in the Martian Capital. He attended a competitive school that fostered his joy of conflict. Here he would be flagged with potential, and started off early into the inter-planet recruitment pipeline. Taking into account his lifelong passion for fitness and competition, he was trained as a rank-and-file marine. His first posting saw him shipped to a massive military base on a tumultuous planet covered in tundra. This planet was struggling to suppress the natives, a primitive but experienced force of guerilla fighters. After his squad was decimated during an ambush on their patrol, his captain picked him to step up to the plate and field promoted him to a junior officer. He helped his captain return to base with the surviving casualties. Back at base, his commission was officiated and he finished his posting there in the high regard of his seniors. He would be posted away from conflict for some time, where he was promoted to Captain. He acted in an administrative role, and helped train new recruits for some time before he was sent back out with a detachment and attached to a small fleet of important merchant vessels. This deployment saw him fighting space buccaneers. He survived, mostly unharmed. He had minimal casualties or losses. His seniors promoted him to Major given his success. Now he is returning to deployment, in charge of his largest detachment of marines yet aboard the flagship Intrepid. P. S. How big were you thinking the marine detachment should be? My thinking is at least 15 men + the Major. If it's smaller, I could make my character a Captain.
The Intrepid has a crew of about 1,200 sailors and marines, and the marine detachment is about 100 strong.
