The sun reached toward the zenith of its path. Bugs zipped about. The creatures of the forest followed their instincts. The lake reflected the sunlight, but stayed cool despite the summer heat. It was tempting. It was not yet the hottest part of the day. That was still a couple of hours away, but it didn’t make it more bearable to know that. She was good with her hands and had long cared for nature. She knew what could be touched without gloves, and what she needed to use tools to deal with. She carefully worked on making the first trail. It wasn’t until her thirst and some hunger started to pick at the edges of her awareness that she even bothered to pay much heed to anything but the work she was doing. She gathered up the tools she had been using. A lot of debris had been put into the wheelbarrow. It was almost overflowing, so she used the rake and other things to keep it all inside the wheelbarrow as she went back toward the shed. Em noticed the others heading toward the lake. She smiled. A bit of time in the water would be really nice right about now. Em wondered if maybe whatever Marco had cooked up for lunch could be used for a picnic. There was a set of tables half hidden in shade near the lake that would be perfect, provided they weren’t falling apart just like everything else at this damn camp.
