[COLOR=DARKGRAY][indent]Dane Whitman is a directionless loser in New York, still (poorly) dealing with the fallout from his father's unexpected death, and completely isolated from any sense of family, companionship, or brotherhood. His mother left when he was a child; his Dad moved them from England to New York soon after; and he never knew his father's side of the family before he died. He feels bereft, lonely, and unsure of what his purpose is or what he should be [i]doing[/i] with his life, lost without the guidance of his father. 

Dane Whitman is unaware that many people sacrifice themselves silently and in secret for the sake of a people who will never even know they existed at all. Dane Whitman is unaware that his family line is centuries-old and defined by quiet magnanimity. Dane Whitman is unaware that sometimes, Destiny gets bored waiting to be found, and sometimes decides to come right to you instead.

[COLOR=DARKGRAY][INDENT]After realizing [i]Gotham Nights[/i] just wasn't cutting the mustard for me, I went back to the drawing board and went looking for something completely fresh - something I'd never done before, never even considered before, barely even knew existed before. I scoured comic runs and franchise characters, looking for new things. Then I found Dane Whitman and the Black Knight and the Ebony Blade, and the legacy of his ancestry, and then I fell down a rabbit-hole of Arthurian myth, and then I started getting excited.

This will be an origin story for Dane Whitman, the next incarnation of Marvel's Black Knight, the fated guardian of the Ebony Blade; he will grapple with this secret family legacy and the weight of the task now assigned to him, unwitting and unrequested; he will discover a world just behind the one he's lived in for two-and-a-half decades, that's not about to slow down to accommodate him; he will be forced to learn what being noble and virtuous and honourable really means. 

Uniquely for me, it's also a perfect character and story for heavy interaction; how better to learn how to be a hero than from those who are already out there fighting the good fight? How better to battle monsters and slay dragons than with a little help from your friends? How better to get used to this strange new world of heroics and villainy than immersing yourself in it completely? 

It's fresh. It's new. It's swords and shields, Knights and Maidens, mythology and folklore and the modern era.
