Sounds neat! So, would it be strictly limited to cards from Yugioh, or is it just the genral aesthetic of what we can choose?
Sticking to Yugioh.
Hey, I'm interested. My question is whether we are meant to use existing monster effects, or just names/aesthetics. I think a lot of the best designs are normal monsters, but why pick them if you can have a modern card with 3 or 4 different effects on it? If you want my opinion, we should leave aside the effects from the card game except for very basic ones - even then they should have some tradeoff, maybe. The monsters should be moreso differentiated by their type, attribute, level, and stats. I'm interested either way, though. I'll think about what monster would make a good partner.
And yes, we’ll be sticking to simpler effects here. Everyone will start off with at most a Level 4 monster. Effects can vary depending on the monster of course. Let’s use Skilled Dark Magician as an example. It would serve as a gateway to other magician monsters. And we can translate its usage of spell counters as less of going into Dark Magician, and instead use spell counters it generates as boosts to its spell power. Or even use the spell counters for something else. This will also have some anime-isms from Duelist Kingdom. Like “your monster is soaked, therefore my monster’s electrical attack will deal greater damage.” or “This monster has multiple heads, each one must be cut in order for it to be destroyed.”
