My Cringe
Circa 2009 I tried waaay too hard to emulate a group of CRPers from my first forum. I wandered over to a different [smaller] site and attempted to bring the heavy-hitting battle style to the new place. From this effort came a handful of terrible tries at creating universal-level powerhouses. In essence, they were conceptually sound, just really poorly executed. The one that still remains clear to me was a demonic being that was steadilt seeding and controlling NPC characters (if you know Dragon Ball, think Baby from GT). Another of my mishaps was a character that was meant to be astrology-inspired, embodying/drawing power from the planets (the abilities coinciding with the Greek/Roman dieties associated with each planet. I had some sort of thing with magical orbs that served as weapons. It was weird, and definitely me trying to experiment with powers/ability builds.
Other Cringe
I recall from my days on a Kingdom Hearts forum someone made an absolute mary-sue that wielded ten Keyblades (the legendary weapons of the KH Series, for those that don't know); had the tragic back story mixed with unmitigated ability staples to really round off the character. I admittedly cringe at most people who endeavor to use Time Manipulation as a power, because few can really craft an ability set that doesn't flirt with Powerplaying and/or Godmodding as a feature; no one I've seen ever takes the time to really engage with the physics/metaphysics involved. I once battled someone who simultaneously argued time being relative while still having his character 'freeze' time. Keeping within the CRP experience, there was a guy I used to battle who was moreso cringe in practice than in the concept of his characters. He'd take the L in a battle and then reveal without having put in any setup, prep, or hints, that his opponent had only beaten a clone/copy of the character proper, and would claim the person that best bested him was using an OP character. His own OC was a blatant self-insert that uses Yugioh cards as his primary weapons/power facilitators, basically being able to manifest them into reality like some characters in the show. So like, not exactly a low-tier power. He also seemed to not fully comprehend the difference between characters and players. To this day I still don't know if he was a huge troll or just too thick to start getting it. Either way it was a shame because with a bit if work (or earnest interest beyond trolling) he could have been a good RPer. As far as confusing (minus the cringe) there were a few RPers from a prior forum I was on that had rosters of characters that, to the best of my understanding, existed from outside any known reality or physics system; how/where they got the inspiration for the power sets they had, but it took me the better part of a decade (and... err... taking some weird stuff) to start wrapping my head around them.
