While she was born in Night City, when she was 16 she was sent to study in Japan, an opportunity only open to her due to the connections of her family and clan. While a deeper understanding of her native culture was surely an important aspect of this to her family, it was not its principle aim. While back in the home nation of the clans, Shimada was fully integrated into the workings of the Arasaka Corporation, the principle partner of the Kansaki clan in Night City. The majority of her time was truly spent studying (with the usual distractions of any student body) however it was during these years that she was first ingratiated with the Taka faction of Arasaka, and eventually it's leading voice in Yorinobu Arasaka. While several decades older than her in the purest sense of time, the more dynamic, tradition shirking, man was far more appealing in sensibilities than the same voices who had done such damage to the world a short time before. When Shimada returned to Night City following a string of qualifications ending in her Masters degree in Business and Public Policy, she did so with the intention of aligning the Kansaki as best she could with the Taka faction. Small time crime in Japantown might have been the work of a dime a dozen gangs, most recently the Tyger Claws, but anything worth any real amount of eddies worked through the Yakuza and their fixers and the Kansaki were the first among equals, working directly with representatives of Arasaka to turn Japantown into one of the most economically successful and safe districts of Night City outside of Corpo Plaza. Shimada was present for this, taking on an official role with the local Night City civil service to better facilitate the work of her family, and by extension, Arasaka. In truth, her work did more than simply facilitate business, actually benefitting the denizens of Japantown in many ways, albeit simply to further establish the clan under the false pretence of philanthropy. Aside from this, Shimada lived a comfortable life, attending parties, conferences (sometimes the difference between these are merely academic) and enjoying the best that Night City has to offer a young and successful person. This was not to say she was entirely removed from the violence of her family's work, she was still suitably augmented for her own defence, and trained by the finest instructors Arasaka could provide her family, but it was rare this had to put into practice beyond making a point of someone who had underestimate her. Not everything was simply business as usual for Shimada, as Yorinobu began to put in place his final plan to bring about the end of his father's version of Arasaka, he began to reach out to his allies in Night City. This included Shimada, who's role in the plot was rather simple, use the Kansaki network to move those loyal to Taka into the city without drawing the notice of the rest of Arasaka. It was this action that would bring about the fall of the Kansaki. When the murder of Saburo took place, the initial reaction from Arasaka was swift and retributive. Despite promises made to the contrary, the involvement of the Kansaki was revealed to the wider corporation, one of many scapegoats Yorinobu was willing to provide to secure his own position as he worked to bring an end to the corporation. Falsely accused of being bribed by outside actors (even rumoured to be Militech), the Kansaki were set upon by loyalist Arasaka Yakuza, or more truthfully, those who looked to gain the Corp's favour to replace the Kansaki as their primary point of contact with the Yakuza. Shimada's family were slaughtered, along with their closest friends and confidents, in a series of brutal retaliatory attacks. Shimada only survived by apparent coincidence, a change to her schedule placing her away from her intended duties that day and thus avoiding a bomb attack which destroyed her office. She has suspected this was more due to some last favour from her previous ally in Yorinobu, and act that does not come close to brushing away the cost of betrayal. It mattered not that she had physically survived, Shimada Kansaki would have to remain dead. Thankfully as with any family rooted in crime, the Kansaki were not so integrated into the Arasaka mould that they had not planned for such and so Shimada still had access to at least some of the resources her family had stockpiled over the years, bounced through so many transfers and accounts as to be utterly removed from her identity. Thankfully for Shimada she was, in many ways, already prepared for a life of solo survival. With combat training from Arasaka’s tutors, the same individuals who had developed the Troy Exterminator program and possessed substantial self defence augmentations. While the Kansaki had previously looked down on the ‘small time’ criminals of the Tyger Claws, Shimada was quick to reach out to Wakako Okada as the most capable fixer she was aware of, and to who they now shared an emnity towards Arasaka. There were no favours done for free, but Wakako had little compunction putting Shimada’s skill set to good use, and to the embittered woman, Shimada’s history with Arasaka was a benefit rather than a risk. Shimada had little involvement in the diasterous (for Arasaka) events of the recent past, but still very much took personal satisfaction in the crippling of Arasaka’s presence in the city. Shortly afterwards, however, Shimada was approached by representatives from Night Corp, using her well hidden family name with ease. The offer was simple, to make Arasaka’s downfall in the city permanent. With the eddies on offer and a chance at a personal revenge, there really was no reason to turn it down. The risk of having her identity exposed and the bounties that would come with it remained an unspoken, unnecessary threat.

[sub][sup][sub]
D E T A I L E D A P P E A R A N C E D E T A I L E D A P P E A R A N C E
[/sub][/sup][/sub]

Despite being born in Night City, Shimada’s appearance aligns more with the neo-future Japan of her family’s homeland. This would hardly be considered subdued by modern standards, but it lacks some of the riot of colour that the Tyger Claws have made famous across Night City. The most ostentatious aspect of Shimada’s appearance comes in the form of of a sweeping dragon and lotus tattoo which rises from the foot of her right leg up to her right shoulder. While often dulled, the interactive ink can shine or alter colouration at her will. Shimada’s cybernetics are subtle in appearnce, most being subdermal. Exceptions come in the form of her hands and feet, the digits, palms and soles of which are marked out in jade. While certainly capable of brutal force when neccesary, Shimada’s outward appearance tends not to give this away, soft and elegant, she moves with the poise taught to her by her tutors in Japan. Despite avoiding the garish clashing of colour many in Japantown favour, Shimada is hardly conservative, her corpo-esque attire often doing much to show off and enhance the fairness of her features and curves of her form. Once this had simply been a preference of style, now it is a trap to ensnare the kill. While she changes her look with as much whim as any individual of fashion, Shimada’s hair is usually kept it’s natural brown, and her eyes hazel, she can certainly be spotted with alterations to both on occassion, however. As with anyone trained in the art of Japanese courtly behaviour, Shimada is quite used to expressing herself through gestures and facial expressions as much as she is words, a trend that can make her seem higly emotive at times, or incredibly stoic at others.

[sub][sup][sub]
P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S )
[/sub][/sup][/sub]

Shimada’s goals are for the short term rather simple. While originally her aims had little to do with Night Corp itself and everything to do with retribution she has since become emotively tied to the success of the plan to ensure Night City’s indendence from either Arasaka or Militech. Whether she truely believes Night Corp is the means to achieve this remains to be seen, but for the meantime, it is her best chance at both.
[/cell][/row]

The Kaldorei Empire

A Dream of Renewal
Name: The Kaldorei Empire, Kaldrassil (Crown of the Stars) Territories:

Despite the arrival of outsiders upon the shores of Kalimdor, the heartland of the Kaldorei Empire has remained secure as it has since the War of the Shifting Sands. While the Elune-Worshipping society has flourished for thousands of years, their aloof nature has stood them apart from the matters of Central and Southern Kalimdor, let alone the wider world, as such they have not looked to expand, instead maintaining smaller garrisons outside their territory to watch for threats and challenges beyond their borders. The events of recent years have put challenge to this approach and the Kaldorei have begun to enforce greater unity among those who consider themselves close allies of their cause. Furbolg populations in Timbermaw and Winterspring have found themselves called to arms alongside the elven sentinels, and the previously more isolated druidic communities of Stonetalon and Moonglade have rejoined the fold in full. Not all is well, however, for the Southern portions of Ashenvale remain only loosely patrolled by the Sentinels. The region of Ashara, considered a cursed land by many Kaldorei, has almost entirely slipped from any sense of control by the Empire. Other Assets: With the more formal union of the Green Dragonflight with the Druids of the Kaldorei, it seems likely their presence in the Dream has taken on a more uniform approach as well. Goals and Motivations: In light of recent events and the tragic loss of their ancient leaders, the Kaldorei have set aside the lessons of Tranquillity and now prepare to ensure the safety of both their own civilisation and the natural world they hold so dear through direct action, joined by a conclave of the Green Dragonflight who, in the absence of their now missing aspect, seek allies in their duty of upholding the safety of the Dream and the balance of nature upon Azeroth. In keeping with their reinforced duty to the preservation of the world, an increasingly sizeable faction of the Kaldorei wish to forcibly extend the restrictions against the use of the arcane they impose on their own people across the peoples of Azeroth. Recent History: In many ways the distorted timeway has created a brighter future for the Kaldorei people, although they would not know such. The World Tree stands, providing the boon of immortality and health for their people and a great font of natural magic for their nation. In many ways, however, this reprieve is build upon great tragedy. Without the unifying threat of the Legion invasion, hostilities between the Kaldorei and the new arrivals upon their shore had little reason to cool, the early misunderstandings between orc, elf and human blossoming to a greater degree. When Cenarius fell to the blade of the Warsong, his once-student, Malfurion, took up the defence of the wilds alongside the Sentinels, lead by Tyrande Whisperwind. The respected and beloved leaders of the Kaldorei people worked as a rallying cry for the defenders, emboldened to not allow further incursion into their home. While the battle was fierce, there were those on each side that did not crave the conflict and had events been left to their devices an armistice may have formed. As cruel fate would have it, an ancient foe of both the Night Elves, and more personally their leaders, took the moment to enact his long standing revenge. No longer enslaved to the grand plan of the Legion, the Satyrs attacked the first attempted at a peaceful meeting between orc and Kaldorei. The orcs misinterpreting the elven forms of their foes as another Kaldorei ambush, and with no elven survivors to present the situation back to Kaldorei at large, the blame for such a thing fell upon each other. Most distressingly for the Kaldorei, both the Archdruid and High Priestess were in attendance, now presumed lost, along with Cenarius, to the blades of orcs. This was not alone in creating the shift in Night Elven society, but those that have steered the children of the stars through this time of uncertainty and grief are not among those who would seek a conciliatory solution to either justice or the challenges facing the world. The mediatory nature of the druids has seen their direct influence wane, becoming more akin to the spiritual guides of other races. The Warrior-Priestesses of the Sentinels have retained their dominant role in society, along with the even more militant Wardens taking up a stronger role in Kaldorei civilisation. For the first time in millennia, the sea-cutter fleets of the Kaldorei roam the world, seeking out those they deem a threat to both themselves and the natural order they safeguard. In this latter act they are joined, as ever, by the scions of the Green Dragonflight. In these recent years, however, the bond between the Dragonflight and the Kaldorei has strengthened. With the Aspect of the Dream, missing within the Emerald realm, those that have remained on Azeroth to safeguard the world now look for allies, both in their task, but equally in the possibility of locating their missing matriarch, and few mortals are as equipped as the Kaldorei Druids in navigating such paths. Any issue the dragons may have with the increasingly extreme Kaldorei zeal, if it exists, is unspoken. They may even support such a change, for the dragons have likewise felt the damage reckless mortals have forced upon Azeroth, and by extension the Dream, in recent years. Even to consider them a team, for their formation occurred more from chance than desire, can seem somewhat premature, but bonds forged in the fires of battle are strong. Their story begins in Earth’s past, with the birth of an alien-human hybrid, the child of a human woman and an alien prince stranded on Earth and momentarily free of the responsibilities of a stellar war. Duty, or power, eventually overcame love and so the human was left behind with a newborn. While they may have had no role or even knowledge of their lineage, the child would one day discover their only gift from their father, a twin set of pistols able to harness the elements themselves. Shortly after their lineage would have more tragic consequences, as several groups of aliens would secretly come to Earth in the hope of riches by ransom, or simply revenge. The most notorious of these groups, the Badoon, were at least partially successful, both in infiltrating the Earth and in locating the Quill family. When they struck, under the guise of local armed criminals, they murdered Peter's mother and took the boy prisoner, intent on turning him over to an enemy of Peter's unknown father. They would never reach their intended destination, intercepted by the Ravagers under the command of Yondu Udonta. The spacefaring bandit felt some kind of kinship and sympathy for the young Earthling, rather than return him to Earth or attempte to fulfill the bounty himself, he adopted Peter into his crew. During his spaceborne adventures, Peter would eventually encounter the cosmic being the 'Star Lord' and deemed worthy of its power, becoming the new bearer of the title. While the Ravagers under Yondu, in particular with Peter's influence, became more akin to the loveable rogues of Earthbound Loxley, eventually their true nature would show, abandoning Peter to the Nova Corps rather than face further pursuit. Locked away in the secure facility of the Kyln, Peter would encounter those who would become his companions. Genetically engineered Rocket Racoon, the last of the Groot, Drax the Destroyer and Gamora. Each of them had been wronged greatly by the wider powers of the galaxy and each of them were capable in their own right. Few might think of any of them as altruistic, but in truth, each felt something of the Star Lord's purpose. The Klyn had been notorious as a facility from which no one could escape, yet it was not long before this particular band of outlaws made their escape, taking with them the Nova Corps ship, the Milano. Due to it's close orbit of a Black Hole, time on the Klyn may have passed swiflty, but the (not yet named) Guardians returned to a galaxy several decades later than that which they had known. This seperation from the situations they had known prompted them to remain united, at least for the time being, picking up where Peter had left off, Galactic mercenaries with a propensity to accidentally do heroic things. The most recent member of the team is a recent acquisition, the Guardians accepting a contract to retrieve a powerful energy source formed by a contested time-space anomaly sort after by many. Fending off some of the worst denizens of the Galaxy, at the source of the disturbance they instead found Kara Zor-L, displaced not just out of time and space but reality itself. The meeting was not entirely easy and peaceful, but Kara now travels with the Guardians, in an effort to discover the location of this reality's Earth, and a chance to return to her own.

[SUP][SUB]
S A M P L E P O S T:
[/SUB][/SUP]

"Quill, of all the mad scut you've dragged us into, this is the worst, I am drawing the line here." Rocket's voice was strained as he fought to keep his senses from spinning entirely out of control as the Milano looped around the exploding remains of a larger craft. Usually spaceflight didn't cause such problems, but the cascade of lights from detonating vessals and the distorting effects of whatever was happening to the laws of space and time were doing a great job of creating vertigo. "Rocket this was your idea, I just did the improvisation." Peter didn't have time to turn his to reply to the smaller Rocket as he clutched the manual controls of the Milano, the smaller Guardian off to his side on one of the weapon stations, blazing away at the Badoon fighters that were currently circling them. "Well, we wouldn't have needed to take this job in the first place if we'd got paid for the last one, but you had to give those water collectors away to-" Normally the destruction of a persuing enemy would have brought some cheer from Rocket, but instead they were simply being replaced by a continued stream of targets as the Milano dived through melee of competing starcraft. It seemed anyone who considered themself a local warlord or bandit had shown up to stake their claim to whatever power source had been detected blazing away in what had previously been a very unremarkable asteroid field. "Be silent the both of you, or keep it off our comms." The cutting voice of Gamora crackled over the comms unit, timed with the sudden thud of her impact on the outer dome of the ship's frontal observation window. Clad in her voidsuit of white and black, the Deadliest Woman in the Galaxy was tethered to the outside of the craft. Superhumanley strong and fast, even in the crucible of combat in space she could do more damage with her blade than by manning a turret, a fact that made their other melee specialist, Drax, exceedingly envious. "You both waste time, and are half again behind my count." Drax himself cut into the conversation, sitting at the opposite station to Rocket as beams from his own installation evaporated the onrushing form of another Badoon craft, just as Peter brought the Milano away from the collapsing form of the much larger Ravager ship they had been using as artful cover. It looked as if a thousand and one new stars were being born every moment as the fusion cores of spacecraft bled out into the void, only to wink out the next moment. Stranger and more captivating still was the shimmering light blazing off the shattered remainds of one of the asteroids, a light which seemed to bend and warp reality around it. The source of both the great power and the escalating conflict. "I am Groot." The Shifting mass of wood and vines at the navigational console toned out dolorously , pointing with a finger like tendril at the criss crossing holographic map charting the surrounding chaos. "Alright, you heard Groot, we have a window." With little further warning, Peter banked the Milano hard, a spiralling dive running parallel to another blazing wreck that had recently be a pirate cruiser of some size. Masked by the blazing conflagration, the small (relatively) craft escaped noticed from the surrounding battle as it fell towards the blazing asteroid. Only a single Badoon fighter noticed their passing, and only for the moment it took Gamora to swing free from the craft, the length of her blade, the Godslayer, passing over its cockpit and venting the pair of crewmen into space. With practiced grace, the daughter of Thanos swung back around, the mag clamps of her boots firing once again to pull her back to the surface of the Milano, bonecrunching force barely noticed by either ship or woman. As they drew closer to the anomaly, Gamora slipped back inside the protective chassis of the Milano, sliding in through the airlock seals to once again stand within the atmospheric pocket of their travelling home. "Do we have any readings on what it actually is yet?" She asked as she removed her helm, her voice still carrying over the comms as she made her way through the ship to reach the cockpit, momentarily without sight of the chaos beyond, her natural senses had no way of telling they were currently in such a hectic battle. "The initial pulse was even enough to suggest an artificial origin, but after that its been haywire. Like someone shot a hole through space and time and then just left it to bleed out." Peter spoke up as they drew closer and closer to the asteroid. To say they had a clear approach had been an overstatement, as distinctive looking warships circled the immediate space around the asteroid. "Heads up team, those look like Accuser Warships." "Kree? That's a hell of a lot more than rogues and pi-" Rockets latest remark was cut off as the closest Accuser warship to the Milano seemed to twist away from the flickering form of the rift, only for a detonation to rock through the vessel, seeming to split it in half, a rolling wave of force passing the thousands of kilometres between them in an instant. "What the flark did that!" "Whatever it was, it's breaking out of the pull of the rift, we can move to intercept, looks like the ravagers are too." Gamora spoke out from over Groot's 'shoulder' following the navigational holo. "We're getting paid to bring back a power source, not chase whatever's coming out of it." Rocket grumbled from the turret station, swinging the armament around to track the motion all the same. "Fark, that's a small signal, can't even be the size of a fighter." As he spoke, the lights of Ravager weaponry opened up, a cascade of aggressive light as the pirate forces looked to engage with whatever had just blazed its way out of the temporarl anomaly. Without much of a pause, Peter threw the Milano around, the sleek craft pivoting in building gravity of the asteroid to blaze after the signal. "Sorry Rocket, anything that's fighting Ravagers is a friend of mine." "Screw you, Quill. This is why we're so poor." Despite his words, Rocket was already preparing for the incoming firefight. In the short time the somewhat sarcastically named Guardians had been operating there were already few enough Ravager outfits without the directive to shoot the Milano down on sight. They were soon in a new debris field made up of the scattered remains of the Accuser Warship and a building number of Ravager fighters, although there were plenty more still blazing away. The Milano entered the dogfight with all turrets blazing, falling in among the diving fighters with a grace the ramshackle pirates couldn't match. Still, they drew only passing interest from the pirates, who remained more fixated on the tiny signal that continued to wreck havoc among their formation. "I am Groot." "No way that's a hu- Oh scut...I think that is a human." As the Milano drew in, visual confirmation backed up what the inscreasingly accurate sensors were suggesting. Right at the heart of the destruction what appeared to be a human woman, out in the vacuum of space, punched her way through the chasis of an onrushing Ravager figher, her eyes emitted twin beams of red energy which decimated another, before her attention swung about to the Milano. "...This could be bad." Rocket breathed. Despite the potential dangers around them, the figure simply drifted towards the ship, halting the progress of the craft with an outstreched hand, her eyes, slowly decreasing from a red glow to a more natural blue state, fixated on Peter within the cockpit. "Not a human, a Kryptonian." Gamora was already standing, the Godslayer drawn despite the seperation between her and floating figure outside. "Those are all dead Gamora, perhaps this is a ghost." Drax contributed, his own expression knit in a forough of deep thought. "Well we sure as fark aren't getting paid." Rocket let out a dejected sigh. She navigated those awkward early years with all the disputes with her friends and family and daring escapades that many versions of Peter Parker also share. For a moment it might look like she'd even finally began to move past the grief and shame of her best friend's death, in her personal life she was several years into college and as the hero Spiderwoman she was truly starting to make a difference. Then everything went wrong. Harry Osborne returned to New York, aligning with both NYPD Captain Frank Castle and the new Kingpin, Matt Murdock, in their shared aim to bring an end to Spider-Woman. New York became a conflict zone of increasingly extreme proportions as the trio expended their great reserves of resources and ambition in their aim, culminating in a plot that began to pull the very fabric of their reality apart. In her efforts to prevent disaster, Gwen Stacy has ended up stranded in another dimension, but with little but hurtful memories to return to and in the interest of protecting her embattled father, Gwen is in little rush to return home, instead lost in the present of this new reality.

[SUP][SUB]
C H A R A C T E R M O T I V A T I O N S & G O A L S:
[/SUB][/SUP]

With a more grown up Spider-man present in the game, I thought it would be interesting to play a Spider-Gwen who's also further along in her story than she's usually portrayed both in wider media and her own comics. Rather than a fresh superhero before being thrust into interdimensional threats, her displacement is a result of conflicts directly tied to her journey as Spider-woman. Rather than a High School senior or first year college student, she's made it through half a decade of Spidering, starting to just about get a handle on the usual Spiderperson issues of being chased by the law and balancing her personal life before being displaced. She's not entirely upset about her situation, however, seeing her separation from her friends and family as a neccesary evil to keep them safe from the increasingly hostile reality of her home. The stories I want to tell are the consequences of a well meaning Spider-Gwen unmoored from her reality, yet still wishing to do good, as well as the struggles of living in a reality where you don't legally exist, at least not among the living. I want to deal with the very early process of this, rather than start her mostly on the way to making a new home.

[SUP][SUB]
C H A R A C T E R N O T E S:
[/SUB][/SUP]

Spider-Woman, or Ghost Spider as she will style herself in this new reality, shares the generic abilities of Spider-people, although as with any of those she puts her own spin on her approach. A ballet dancer through high school and a musician beyond that she exhibits a style which is athletic and graceful in a rhythmic sense. Her webshooters and suit are gifts from her dimensions Janet Van Dyne and so provide a few more unique abilities, the formers able to recharge overtime without the need for her to create her own webfluid, and the later able to shift colour at her will, alongside extendable glider wings from beneath her arms when required.

Captain Stacy: Now retired, George Stacy is Gwen's father and only parent following the death of her mother. Previously in charge of the taskforce put together to catch Spider-Woman, George was eventually dismissed in favour of Frank Castle. His relationship with Gwen was strained by their differences but close in bond, until in the passing moments of Gwen's time within her own dimension she admitted her identity to her father. She never saw her father again before her final confrontation with Harry, but the fall out of the reveal no doubt contributes to her lack of desire to seek a way home.
[s]Peter Parker:[/s] Her best friend in High School and her greatest failure, during Gwen's early years as Spider-Woman she fought with the Lizard, who turned out to be Peter. The later did not survive and she's carried the guilt with her.
The Mary Janes: Gwen's band and her longest last friends. Gwen's secret identity and life as Spider-woman created a great deal of conflict between herself and her other bandmates during the later years of High School, but the maturity of the following years lead to a greater degree of balance. While she may miss them, she now sees her absence as a way to protect them from what Harry may be willing to do to hurt her, as he narrowed in on her identity.
Janet Van Dyne: Retired hero and role model to Spider-Woman, Janet took a chance on a young woman caught between self aggrandisement and doing some real good in the city of New York. The tech required for Gwen to be Spider-woman was Van Dyne make and Janet is the only person back home for Gwen who has any idea of what has happened to both Spider-woman and Gwen Stacy.

No Way Home: The trio of Harry Osborne, Frank Castle and Matt Murdock united in their desire to rid New York of Spider-woman, for very different reasons. Frank Castle, the obsessed police captain who blamed her for a series of embarrassing failures for the PDNY put aside his differences to unite with the new Kingpin, Frank Castle, who had once hoped to recruit Spider-woman to his cause. The final member, Harry Osborne, spent years away from New York training to take vengeance on the hero he blamed for his best friend's death, combined with the vast resources of OsCorp. Originally a private agreement, this triumvirate eventually became a public force in New York, wielding increasingly large political power to achieve their end. Harry's eventual plan, involving the use of a Super-Collider to punch through to realities where living, and superpowered, Peter Parker's may reside, is the plot which resulted in Gwen being stranded in this reality. Gwen has little idea of what now occurs back home, but the Trio continue to exert influence across that alternate New York.
Make The Most Of It: Gwen hasn't been in this version of New York to establish her own identity or true rivals, but already the whispers of a new crimefighter herald her presence on the scene. She's starting small, but once she's sure her presence isn't about to cause any sort of dimensional collapse, she's going to come out swinging. Not every day, but definitely this day. Gwen only had a moment to give her greetings to the large advertisement of her frontwoman’s face before she was bouncing away from it, propelled by the force of the impact. It was an embarrassing hit, even with spider sense to warn her, she’d been rather distracted by the revelation her roommate of days gone past was apparently now a movie star. Still, radioactive spider enhanced endurance meant that she’d recovered before she struck the ground, pirouetting through the air to land in a crouch. “Your movements are fluid, a dancer then, that is new.” The voice carried over the sound of the city all around them as a gust of rushing wind brought the Vulture down close by. Not her Vulture, but definitely still ‘a’ Vulture.’ “Yeah well, these glutes didn’t come out of the Spider too.” Gwen snapped back as she was already moving, a handstand spring forward as winged villain landed, launching over his head as he did so. Two strands of webs fired out from his hands, momentary linking the Vulture’s suit by wing tips to ground. The strands held for long enough for her to complete her landing with a kick to the back of the man’s head, sending him sprawling forwards. “I can recommend a work out plan, because even for you, you look like you might need a bit of a health check, Adrian.” It was true enough. ‘Her’ Adrian might have literally had red eyes, but this one looked like he’d aged his whole life all again at once. The Vulture was quick to recover though, the momentum of their fall turning into their own roll, before launching into the air in a spear tackle towards her. “New, but just as annoying.” He snarled with grim purpose. “Well, I wouldn't want to disappoint.” She was already aware of the presence of an alternate ‘her’ in an established hero donning the spider motif, Gwen presumed this was what the Vulture referred to as she dove to the side, the motion turning into a forward roll as she spun back onto her feet, just in time to launch another pair of strands to add to her building web binding the Vulture to the ground. It was already beginning to prevent him from lifting off in full, just a little longer and she could probably wrap this up. There was a frustration to his movement and actions which suggested more than just her wit getting under his skin, he seemed surprised at the effectiveness of the webbing. Perhaps a different formula, some things would have to be different in this place, no matter how it still looked like her city. “I don’t know how you know him….but I’ll make you regret this.” The wizened Vulture snapped, lunging out for her once more. This time she slipped under him, two further lashings of web now to his ankles as she did, an incoming trip as she swung out the other end and the Vulture crashed forwards. “Would you believe me if I said we’re entirely unrelated?” The muffled sound from beneath the collapsed form of the Vulture certainly sounded like it was closer to a negative. “Fair enough I suppose…Well…you sit there. I’m sure someone’s noticed this by now.” It would be hard to consider otherwise, Gwen had been swinging around the city, getting her bearings, when the Vulture had struck, possibly confusing her for ‘this place’ counterpart from a distance. A very public mid air crash sending her spiraling into a neon glowing advertisement was hardly a subtle start to a brawl. She didn’t have the best relationship with the PDNY back home, she somewhat doubted her ability to explain her situation to law enforcement here either. “Stay in school, Adrian!” She called out before zipping away, well before the ubiquitous sirens of New Yrok drew closer. She’d already decided she needed to find a way to rent these Jackpot films. The only issue was she doubted her credit card was interdimensional. Where once this was tied to his emotions, this is now a finally honed skill. It is not so much a specific or targetted manifestation, but instead a passive aura that benefits himself and his allies while harming those that seek to do harm to the son of Nemesis. There is also an element of karmic retribution to this, for those who have breached the harsh code of divine justice find their fortunes running ill when in the presence of Osée Curses and Blessings: - One of the more deliberate aspects of Osée’s divine power is the ability to wield curses and blessings, a skill that has been developed through the limited contact with his mother rather than simply coming to him naturally. Nockinesis: - The ability to manipulate nerve endings to induce or limit pain, perhaps the most cruel of Nemesis’ gifts arose later in Osée’s teens without his deliberate control. This is the incident which drew the most interest from his divine mother and began his more intense period of training in the abilities gifted to him. The discretion of this ability is still very tied to his mood and is a key reason for his generally cold demeanor. Opinokinesis - Used mostly to limit the senses of others, Osée is able to manipulate the sense of himself and others, to enhance or limit them. While this can be used in this general way, as mentioned Osée is far more familiar with its use to limit others, to blind or deafen them, and his command of other aspects of the power are currently limited and erratic. S T R E N G T H S Athleticism - With a father keen on instilling physical ability in his child as well as a consistent interest in sports throughout his life, of varying kinds in varying countries, Osée would be considered to have an impressive athletic ability. Driven/Decisive - The competing influences of Osée’s mentality, firstly the sense of purpose drilled into him and then his own chaffeing about his lack of choice in the matter combine to give him an intense personal drive. With a combination of the lifestyle he was raised in by his father and the duty placed upon him by his divine mother, Osée has little difficulty functioning in situations of high stress or intensity. The variety of circumstances stretch from the day to day all the way to the higher stakes of combat, something the young man has already had to test through his life. Multicultural - Not only had Osée been raised by a bilingual father with ties to both Mayotte and the French home departments, he has spent most of his life following his father's work across Africa, South East Asia and South America. Spending time across the world has given Osée a broad variety of experiences as well as a grasp of languages that many would be envious of. W E A K N E S S E S Cold - As a result of constant drifting between locations across Africa and the call of his mother's blood to render justice, Osée is often cold and unfeeling when dealing with others. He is certainly capable of wielding the charisma of the divine when he wishes to, but even then it is hard to feel much personal warmth from the young man even when he might feel such. This is often at odds with his internal dialogue which is quick to dramatic and passionate conclusions. Inflexible - The moral code of Nemesis does not bend or break, it is iron. For all that Osée may attempt to pull against the dictation of his mother, his mentality differs little from her here. He does not perceive the world in shades of grey but instead black and white, between the just and unjust. This can certainly put him at odds with others and does not lean well for any kind of compromise once his mind has been made up. Obedient - For all that Osée may feel curtailed by his divine destiny, a lifetime of orchestration by both his father and Nemesis have left Osée often defaulting to the mindset of ‘just following orders.’ Even when he may feel hostile towards those providing the instruction, it would take a great deal for him to break through the conditioning he has been subject to. [sup]__________________________________________________________________________________[/sup] P E R S O N A L I T Y Severe .... | .... Interrogative .... | .... Purposeful.... | .... Passionate H I S T O R Y The Baptiste family is one of only a pair of generations, the name taken when Osée’s father, Nael, left Mayotte, not yet a fully recognised department of France, to join the French Foreign Legion as a means to secure a more prosperous life for himself. He took well to the military life and remained a part of the French military even after completing his service and earning French citizenship. While he purchased a home in the South of France, his duties would continue to take him across French territories in the global South as well as to external deployments. It was during his deployment to Cote d’Ivoire as part of Operation Licorne that Nael encountered a woman of harsh yet stunning beauty among the peacekeeping operation. Their relationship was intense but lacked any true sense of warmth or longevity, yet this suited the often transient soldier fine. What he was not prepared for was for the same woman to arrive at his home back in France some months later, with a child to present. Nemesis was not one for sublte lies, and so the truth of the world was revealed to Nael along with what this meant for his newborn son. While Nael withdrew from combat service following the arrival of his son he continued his military career, working first as a French military advisor and then as a private security consultant, a role continuing to take him across the world with his son in tow. Osée, as he was named, knew no other life but that of the constant moving, first between French military postings and then even further afield. He spent roughly half his time still in the South of France when he was younger, yet when he was older he spent all his time where ever his father was posted. The longest period of time he spent in South Africa, where his father maintained a Cape Town address as a hub point between work locations in Southern Africa. This, combined with his time in the South of France, certainly lent well to one of Osée’s preferred past times in playing rugby. He had little time for leisure, however, as his father was keen that he maintain both high academic and athletic results, practically training the young man for war as he had. Nael did not hide his son’s heritage from him, and Nemesis herself was not fully absent, for she often guided her son, and his father, through portents and messages. Her most intense period of contact, a series of weeks, followed after the bulk of Osée’s powers had manifested and she took it upon herself to tutor her son in the more esoteric of her arts, that of the use of curses and blessings, so that he might wield them himself, before she once again left to continue her harsh dispensation of justice elsewhere. Most important to both his parents was that Osée grow up understanding that he life would be lived i n service of Nemesis’ domain, a noble but harsh cause for the young man. Great purposes aside, Nael was still proud when Osée earned a rugby scholarship to UCT and began to play for the Ikey Tigers and pursue a Law degree. While Osée would graduate only recently, his time focused mostly on the mortal world would be drawn to a close with the passing of his father during conflict in Sahel. It was then that Nemesis appeared directly to her son once more, instructing him to journey to Camp Athens and fully embrace the desitny she had in mind for her son. With no other family, Osée has begrudgingly accepted. . These ancient houses migrated to the region that would become Harrowfield generations ago, seizing control of the fertile plains at the heart of the continent with the early forefathers of the Knightly tradition, as committed to the establishment of the Novarian faith as they were to the acquisition of territory. Not a united people, the new rulers of Harrowfield fought for dominance against each other for many years. The formation of the Ninefold as one continuous realm is what gave House Æthelweard the opportunity to extend their rule across Harrowfield, as the dominant, if not singular, political force of the region at the time. At the heart of the Ninefold and the breadbasket of the continent, as well as it's previous history of martial infighting has blossomed Harrowfield into an epicentre of Knighthood, the sweeping fertile plains and temperate, warm, climate lending well to both the raising of horses and the preparation of tournaments. The current Duke and Duchess of House Æthelweard take their roles of custodians of tradition, faith and land with great severity. This presents the, at least public, reason for the House playing a more limited role in the Usurper's War, for ill-rule is no cause to abandon oaths sworn before the Nine to be loyal and true to the King. With the Houses of Harrowfield so entrenched in the idea of Knightly valor, many individual Knights would fight on either side of the war, but the houses themselves remained aloof from the conflict. Thus the Duke and Duchess find themselves in position that is both prosperous and precarious, with a pragmatic understanding that while they may hold great wealth with little of the scars of conflict, they are bereft of the bonds forged in the war itself, and must now rely on their heirs to build connections that they have spurned.[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell] .........................................[/cell][cell] .........................................[/cell][/row]
______________________________________________________________________________________________ ——————————————————————————————————————————————
[row][cell] .................................................................[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell][sup]
L A D Y . E L O D I E . Æthelweard
[/sup]
[sup]
[row][cell]A G E . **[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell]G E N D E R . Female[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell]S E X U A L I T Y . **[/cell][/row][row][cell]H E X C O D E . #F5F0E8[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell]F C . **[/cell][/row]
[/sup] • . bookish . • . devout . • . introverted . • . scholarly . • . pious . • The oldest child of the Duke and Duchess, Elodie was a sickly child, generally considered an ill omen among the faithful and driven peoples of Harrowfield. Where most of the prime noble children of the Hold are encouraged in youth to pursue activities that most benefit from the pleasant climate of the region or grounded in the principles of chivalry, Elodie was instead bookish in nature, no doubt encouraged by a disposition of health which made the rough outdoors a frightening prospect. While youthful fragility has eased into a simply more introverted nature than her siblings, she is still more rooted in the concepts of Academic study. Perhaps the main way in which this interacts with her family and their lands is through Faith, for she is an ardent study of Novarian theology and history. Her own public appearances have mostly focused around the patronage of the faith and the conceptualising and founding of new basilicas.[/cell][/row]
——————————————————————————————————————————————
[row][cell] .................................................................[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell][sup]
L O R D . W A R D R I C . Æthelweard
[/sup]
[sup]
[row][cell]A G E . **[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell]G E N D E R . Male[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell]S E X U A L I T Y . **[/cell][/row][row][cell]H E X C O D E . #C8442A[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell]F C . **[/cell][/row]
[/sup] • . charming . • . capable . • . reckless . • . perceptive . • . thrill-seeking . • First son of the Duke and Duchess, Wardric is a more than capable heir to the principles of his house. Trained by his uncle, one of the better warriors of his generation, throughout his youth and ever a keen student of the cultural history of Harrowfield, Wardric has developed a keen interest in more than just the most romantic aspects of knightly and lordly life on the great fertile plain. He is keenly interested in husbandry and has spent much of his time visiting the farmsteads and estates that make up much of the vast territory his family are the feudal overlords of. Beneath this noble face, however, is an heir more than willing to seek personal danger as a means of bringing an adrenaline thrill to his life. As he has continually improved in martial manners, the risk involved in such has only increased and it has been a closely guarded secret that the heir to House Æthelweard has become involved in far less chivalrous forms of martial sportsmanship over the years in fighting rings that attract far less scrupulous attendees. Nevertheless, he is an able hand at politics and a charming presence that offer much hope to his parents' aims of healing discordance with the other houses of the Ninefold.[/cell][/row]
——————————————————————————————————————————————
[row][cell] .................................................................[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell][sup]
L A D Y . S A E W Y N N . Æthelweard
[/sup]
[sup]
[row][cell]A G E . **[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell]G E N D E R . Female[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell]S E X U A L I T Y . **[/cell][/row][row][cell]H E X C O D E . #F5F0E8[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell]F C . **[/cell][/row]
[/sup] • . fierce . • . principled . • . restless . • . skilled . • . dry-witted . • If Elodie is the soul of the house and Wardric its face, Saewynn is its steel. Modeled after the legendary spirit of the horse-lords, Saewynn grew up in the shadow of a father who valued tradition and a brother who was groomed for glory. While she possesses the golden beauty expected of an Æthelweard lady, she has little patience for the "basilica-patronage" of her elder sister or the soft comforts of the court. Her parents have adopted something of a 'out of sight and out of mind' approach with the more overtly martial of her past times, instead focusing on the many ways in which she fits the mould of the prototypical member of her household, if she attends her brothers' training sessions yet attends to her other duties they will hardly say a word, but it is doubtful they would ever support such things directly. Having spent her youth shadowing Wardric's lessons with their uncle, Saewynn is a rider of peerless skill. She views the family's neutrality in the Usurper's War not as pragmatism, but as a stain on their knightly honor, a cage of "gentle inaction" that she longs to break. Often found in the training yards at first light, beneath her dutiful exterior lies a dry wit and a simmering resentment toward a world that expects her to be a "connection-builder" through marriage rather than a protector of her realm.[/cell][/row]
——————————————————————————————————————————————
[row][cell] .................................................................[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell][sup]
L O R D . O S R I C . Æthelweard
[/sup]
[sup]
[row][cell]A G E . **[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell]G E N D E R . Male[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell]S E X U A L I T Y . **[/cell][/row][row][cell]H E X C O D E . #C8442A[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell]F C . **[/cell][/row]
[/sup] • . dutiful . • . dour . • . self-doubting . • . rigid . • . moralistic . • Born between the fiery Saewynn and the shimmering Eadwine, Osric occupies a narrow, uncomfortable space in the family hierarchy. From the moment he could lift a wooden practice sword, his singular ambition has been to emulate Wardric, to be the quintessential Knight of the Plains, beloved by the smallfolk and respected by the lords. However, where Wardric is naturally gifted with a horse and a blade, Osric is merely diligent; where Wardric is effortlessly charming, Osric is stiff and painfully formal. His dour nature is a byproduct of a decade spent measuring himself against an impossible standard. Osric lacks the "adrenaline-thirst" that drives his older brother, yet he forces himself into the same dangerous circles, hoping to earn a shred of the same respect. He is the brother who stays late in the yard, hacking at straw dummies until his hands bleed, only to be outperformed by Saewynn's natural grace or Wardric's raw talent the following morning. This constant sense of inadequacy has soured his temperament, making him a stern proponent of the Novarian faith and the strict hierarchy of House Æthelweard. He often acts as the family's self-appointed moral compass, frowning at Wardric's recklessness and Eadwine's vanity. Deep down, he fears that while his parents rely on his heirs to build "connections," he is the bridge that no one particularly wishes to cross. He is a man of duty who finds no joy in it, riding Ever Toward Light while feeling as though he is forever trapped in the shade.[/cell][/row]
——————————————————————————————————————————————
[row][cell] .................................................................[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell][sup]
L A D Y . E A D W I N E . Æthelweard
[/sup]
[sup]
[row][cell]A G E . **[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell]G E N D E R . Female[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell]S E X U A L I T Y . **[/cell][/row][row][cell]H E X C O D E . #F5F0E8[/cell][cell].[/cell][cell]F C . **[/cell][/row]
[/sup] • . vivacious . • . spirited . • . indulgent . • . restless . • . charming . • The youngest of the four, Eadwine is the personification of Harrowfield's prosperous peace. Unlike her siblings, who bear the weight of history, faith, or martial duty, Eadwine views the wealth of House Æthelweard as her personal playground. Spoiled by a father who finds her whims a welcome distraction from the "precarious" nature of politics, Eadwine has become a master of the soft power of the sun-drenched court. She is the star of every tournament, or at least those she properly attends. While she may be keen to allow her family's money to be spent on her, she is often escaping to sample the bounteous nature of her family's hold, masquerading as a wealthy trader's daughter rather than an heir to a great house. Not as a woman. Not as a soul. Not as someone who could bleed, love, or rage. She began as a contingency, an echo of Jean Grey sculpted in flesh by Mister Sinister, meant to be a perfect pawn in a game she never asked to play. But the universe has a habit of ruining carefully laid plans. And Madelyne, the girl who should’ve been a shadow proved to be anything but. Sinister watched her with clinical fascination. He needed her to be perfect, Jean Grey’s face, Jean Grey’s potential, Jean Grey’s spark without the pesky burden of Jean Grey’s soul. But even in those early days, even as she sat in the sterile glow of his experiments, something in Madelyne refused to conform. There was a fire in her, quiet at first, but defiant. Something Sinister had not calculated, could not control. And so he let her loose into the world. She woke up in Alaska with fabricated memories stitched into her mind like ill-fitted clothing. Childhood recollections that felt like bad dreams. Skills that came too easily, as if someone else’s muscle memory had been forced into her bones. She didn’t question it at first. She couldn’t. She was too busy simply trying to be a person. She found work in aviation, the abilities came easily to her and where she might doubt any official qualifications she might need, she would suddenly find that the paper trail existed for her. Always enough to keep her rooted where she was. It became easier to pretend she was similar to those around her. Pretended she had roots instead of lab-grown tangles of fate and manipulation. Then there was the disaster. A plane crash. A catastrophe that should’ve killed her. Flames swallowed steel and sky alike, but Madelyne Pryor walked out of the wreckage without a scratch. She didn’t know why. She didn’t understand what part of her had refused to die. But all she saw in the mirror that day was a stranger staring back, unscarred, unburnt, and unbroken. Ever since then she has lived in an increasingly chaotic cycle of visions and reality, the result of powers she does not know she possesses and active conditioning from a master she does not she has. With the terrifying extent of her powers, however, it cannot be long before outsiders may notice something is not right with her quiet corner of Alaska. Following the player group being shaken up I've struggled with what to do with the mutant plot, however as Taka has designs on writing Sinister as a villain for Scott I was inspired to cook up a concept for Madelyne. In truth this sheet could likely be made as an addition to my X-men sheet although I wanted to keep this separate to best define her for anyone else potentially involved in the storyline. This version of Madelyne is still akin to her very earliest comic book appearances, a pilot in Alaska with a collection of memories she falsely believes to be an actual life. Unlike the first Claremont issues that dealt with Madelyne, however, her powers are playing an active role in this deception. Sinister has essentially exiled her to 'cook' until she is more useful for his ends, and her conditioning is resetting any radical changes to her life that might threaten her discovery. Her ability to ignore the worst of Sinister's conditioning, during small rebellions within his labs that she no longer remembers, are thanks to an echo of Jean Grey's connection to the Phoenix, an echo that continues to allow Madelyne's mutant powers to grow with escalating force, potentially far beyond Jean Grey's original abilities and what Sinsiter had initially planned for her, if still not comparable to the Phoenix itself. In her opening posts, should this concept be accepted, it will be clear the outside powers have begun to detect the impact of her powers on the region and start to investigate. This will either pull in my X-men, or anyone else that wishes to jump into a telepathic Alaskan horror show.
[/cell][/row]
