Locals know there's some stuff out there. Werewolves are defintely known about, as they killed most of the metro police department and Silver Bullet's dad who was Sheriff at the time and at the station. Vampires are still mostly just rumored, as they only come out at night or REALLY cloudy/rainy days. Zombies are a new thing with the female ranger being the first victim of Lazarus Man in Darkwater. Silver Bullet will scrap with and name the Leatherwings, but nobody knows much about them. Half of the population believes there's cryptids out there, the other half thinks that its a big hoax to get tourists. 

The original plan was to make the CEO of Westman Chemical a really old vampire. And it does rain and get cloudy in the mountains quite often in eastern TN. The different werewolf packs are actually two gangs at war with each other in Darkwater.
