His mother is a pediatrician, his father teaches physics at the local university, and both of them fully expect Dexter to become someone important someday. Good grades are expected. Reading is encouraged. Summer vacation still somehow involves studying.

Camp is one of the only places where nobody asks him about test scores or future plans. Nobody cares if he skipped piano practice or forgot to read ahead in science class. For a few weeks every year, Dexter gets to just be a kid.
