His mother never liked that title. You're not gray you're a happy little boy. Like most children in Calder, who didn't come from wealthy families, he was sent to a special Vanguard after school club in the Everyday Heroes centre. There he worked with other kids and sidekicks to learn how to control his abilities, and once they felt he didn't constitute a danger towards his peers he was allowed to return to class. There was some bullying over the years, sure. Other people thought it was cool when he could shatter a glass with a tuned sonic scream. He experimented with his ability, and he toyed with the idea of becoming what was effectively known as a 'Cape' - a public superhero, often wearing a costume in order to fight crime. "There's no money in heroics son, you might make a name for yourself but what use is that to your family? Won't put a roof over your head." Simon considered Vanguard. "You want to be a government drone son?" Then he considered many of the high paying representation firms. "A corporate lackey? That's not a real hero."
