His fair skin is unblemished, and his posture is impeccable. Clothing Preferences: James will almost always be found in some variety of officer's uniform, but when not in uniform, he likes to dress a sharply as his pockets can afford.
Psychology
Likes: The Captain's baked goods, a tidy desk, a glass of wine for too much paperwork, classical music, a fine meal, writing and receiving letters Dislikes: The Captain’s drinking habits, poor manners, ignoble nobles Sexuality: Demisexual Hobbies: Reading, stargazing, gardening, cooking Life Goals/Dreams: Bring title to his family Personality Summary: He’s a man that’s looked up to the nobility since he was small. He’s jealous of the Captain’s meteoric rise, but he also respects her for it. She’s shown him it is possible to rise, even from rural peasantry, even as a woman, in Caesonia. He's intellectual and, true to his desires, mindful of proper etiquette. When it suits him. At times (for example, when bothering Victoria) he may drop the rigid manners to meet his mischief. He is brave, earnest, and craves legitimate recognition, not some false praise for things he'd never done.
Background
Current occupation: Army Lieutenant Any past occupations?: Student, Squire Relatives: Mother, father, two sister Skills: Etiquette, logistical and strategic organization, math and forensic science, stargazing, fencing History Summary: James has had a comfortable, upper-middle-class experience in the Sorian capital for most of his life. His father is employed as an artisan for a noble, and was able to secure sponsorship for university, though James continued to pursue a path to knighthood through service as a squire. It was during his time as a student that he met Nolan Edwards. The two bonded over distressing Victoria with James’s lack of high status, then over some scouting to mark the beginning of James’s service to Ser Stratya Durmand, Hero of Encia, as her squire. Ser Durmand took the young man with her on a continuing investigation, and made him her subordinate officer after she made Captain. By the time she’d returned him to the capital for duties she could not maintain while away, he had earned her men’s respect and his position as Stratya Durmand’s officer. As a child, his father, a glass blower, made him a telescope. The man had made several attempts to make the lenses, and finally figured out a trick to getting them right. James had always liked looking at the stars, finding the night sky to be incredibly beautiful, and now he could look even closer. Eventually, stargazing and tracking lead him into maths and science, and university. Another fascination with how things move from place to place got him studying logistics. And now he does Stratya’s paperwork, mostly. Not what he expected when he was chosen as a squire, but being at a desk isn’t so bad.
