Whether it be moving your foot in front of you or behind you, up or down, it was always a change of position. The X-Ray had been looking back at his own path the past couple of weeks. It’s like a lot and little bit happened at the same time. He’d been questioning a lot about himself lately. It felt like what he considered normal at one time was hard to get back to. Ever since that day on campus. How did he end up there…why did he egg Kim on to come there? He already lost a sibling once, that shit was heavy. Who knows what he would have done if she ended up any worse than she currently was. Which was another thing. It was weird to come out of some kinda gas attack without some type of negative affects— At least none that he knew of. Matter fact, really, physically, he hadn’t felt better in his whole life. He considered himself, since his scholarship was based on it, athletically strong and fast. But ever since getting let off from the medics, it was different. Now he was too strong and too fast. Ray never felt more like a slapstick clumsy dumbass in his life than in the first week of being turned loose. After a while, though, he managed to get the hang of it. Then he learned that between himself, Kimi, and the wonder twins, he wasn’t the only one with some kind of performance enhancing drug in his system. They all seemed to be kind of excited about it. To them, it was like a movie or something, where they could use these things they got to save the world. Though, despite usually being the most outspoken of them, Ray was actually the one urging to pump the breaks. There was no way that all this was just some kinda freak accident. It wasn’t like they all willingly took some kind of drug or they all got infected with bugs that went around biting them. They got caught up in gas. Being a little something of a historal poindexter himself, he recognized that chemical warfare was a real thing. As far as they all knew, that coulda been a terrorist attack. While Ray and his may be alright, that didn’t mean everybody that was hit were the same. On the flipside, this could be some kinda social experiment. Either way, Ray wanted no parts of that. The fact that what happened to them was real and they weren’t just all dreaming it together, probably, opened up hella conspiracies. Them using these powers to make noise around the city could get the wrong people’s attention. Feds could take an interest in them and history showed that the higher ups weren’t scared to sneak around or break their own law to get somebody if they really wanted. It was some real heavy shit. That wasn’t to say he wouldn’t use his newfound abilities to be useful in his life. As quick as he could move, he could actually get a lot of shit done in a little bit of time. In fact, Ray was on his way to his uber. He had his eye on an open job spot for The Lucky Star, a restaurant in Chinatown which— Looking around; What The Fuck. That was another issue he ran into. Lately there’d been this weird buzzing type of feeling in his head. He usually felt it when somebody else from the incident was close by, like Kim, Cat, or Dan. When he did, the urge was to follow it. And while he had been walking all this time, vibing to his headphones and doom scrollin on his phone, he somehow ended up way past the corner store where he set up to meet up with the driver. So far, in fact, he was in the middle of the 80s in the Upper West. Did…he step through a portal or something? Ray sighed and looked at his phone. It was 6 o’clock now, and the old folks were expecting him around 6:30. From what it seemed like, he actually moved a lot quicker than he thought when he left the house earlier. Quick enough that he lost track of where he even was if he wasn’t looking. Ray adjusted his Knicks snapback to sit a little tighter and threw on the other sleeve to his backpack. He made a smooth turn down an alley to look up at the walls, and gap between rooftops. If he could cover that much ground without really paying attention…what would it feel like if he was?
