Hellfire, blackout, and the summer heat that often made both even more hellish couldn’t affect him the way he was feeling right now. Nervous. Anxious. Downright terrified, but also…excited. Exhilarated. On top of the world. There was a lot going through his mind and certainly a lot that happened in the week since the blackout. Every morning, afternoon, lunch break, and after-shift dinner that Clive had went directly to going to Huskers. And during those instances spent at the dive bar, there was only one person that Clive spent time with. Only one person that he felt deserving of his time. Only one person that he could think of that he would go out of his way to actually go to Huskers. Of course, it was a friend of the Fallen Angels MC because Mollie worked there, but that wasn’t the only reason. Of course during the blackout it provided one of the few places in town to let people cool off. Again, not the only reason. The only other reason that he felt was of a higher priority than all of that was one thing… or rather a person. And he was currently parked in front of her house. Technically Mollie’s house as well. Technically technically it was Kent’s house. But none of that mattered. This was where, above everything else, Clive was going to pick her up. It was for a date. A proper date. A date that he brought up. Their texts for the past week were a lot of awkward flirting, catching up when they weren’t near each other, but above everything else, it’s where he first asked her out and wanted to do so on a proper date. He sat in his car, hands gripped on the steering wheel. The nerves were getting the best of him and he needed to stop it. “Relax, Clive. Relax.” He took in a deep breath and let himself to feel the calmness and he muttered, “Please God, give me strength for this risk I am going to take and do not let me fuck it up. Amen.” Technically not proper but he was in a bind. Clive was at the door a lot faster than he thought he was. He didn’t even register getting out of the car, but there he was. Standing in front of the King home door and hand raised to knock. He made sure to check one final time. He wasn’t dressed like how he would normally be for a date. Given it was still summer, he had a simple white dress shirt and blue jeans. He wore a clean pair of black sneakers and in his hands he held a few bluebonnets in his hand, a gift for Dallas. Well one of them he planned to spring on her but flowers were a good start. He opted not to get roses because that was too cliche and he thought the symbolism was better here. Confident now, Clive took in one final breath, muttered a small prayer, and knocked three times. It wasn't long until the front door swung open and Dallas appeared at the threshold. In between her time with Clive at Huskers after he'd asked her out, she'd spent the last few days playing dress-up and beauty salon to nail down what would be her look for this date. Had the selected venue been different, she would’ve gone for hair down, a flowy or sexy dress and some cute sandals. But because it was the town fair and the weather apps spoke of temperatures in the low 90’s, she needed to be practical. A cute, flowy white blouse with strings and lace would make the cut, matched with denim shorts, a pair of cute brown cowboy boots and a matching belt. Her hair was in two pigtails, with a ribboned braid down one of them for a cute touch. Her simple makeup look was cemented to her face with the most powerful setting spray she owned, and she’d decided to keep her nails short to be able to properly participate in whatever carnival games they decided to play. A bright smile had already been on her face as she opened the door, but it widened even more when her eyes fell on Clive and the bouquet of beautiful blue flowers he held in his hand. “Oh my God! Are those for me?!” she squealed in delight, sparkling green eyes shifting between her date's handsome face and the favorite-colored flowers. It was a stupid question to ask, but it was the first thing that she was able to blurt out. Clive wasn’t sure what the short chuckle was at: the outfit that Dal wore that was enough for him to laugh (in a good way) or the question. He smiled at it, of course and took time to appreciate the effort that it must’ve taken for her to get dressed up like this. He’d learned a long time ago that something even as simple as twin pigtails often were the most difficult and time-consuming hairstyles to pull off. So Clive held out his hand holding the bluebonnets in front of her as an answer, though he would say, “Yes. They’re bluebonnets,” he said, looking between the gleam in Dallas’ eyes and the flowers. “I didn’t want to be like any other poor donkey. So I thought Bluebonnets might be better. They’re the state flower of Texas. And I heard from a little birdie that blue is your favorite color.” He would admit and though he didn’t specify which birdie that was, suffice to say it was someone Dal knew very well. Beaming, Dallas took the bouquet and buried her face in it, taking in the fragrant, sweet delicate smell of the flowers. She wasn't a stranger to receiving flowers from previous partners– both Aiden and Valentino had gifted them to her before. But her experience had been limited to roses on special occasions. Clive choosing blue bonnets and his explanation behind the selection spoke not only of his attention to detail, but of his thoughtful nature and desire to please her: all qualities that earned him points with the young woman he was courting. “Let me run inside to put these in water real quick,” she excitedly told the man, momentarily excusing herself to do as she said before returning a few minutes later. “Alright, I'm ready to go the blonde declared happily as she pranced across the front door, shutting it behind her and making sure it was locked before turning to Clive. “You ready?” The nerves were running high in Clive’s body. He was trying not to let it consume him but he was actually really fucking nervous. The first date in so long and it was with someone he actually really liked. Someone he felt a connection with and maybe could even see a future with--no, don’t think that far ahead. He needed to stop himself from fancast his future so far ahead. Get through this date and if she still wants to see you after, then maybe allow yourself to hope further past this night. “Absolutely!” Clive perked up at her return. God, even dressed like a cowgirl she was still so effortlessly beautiful. Elegant and rustic. Like a hoedown cheerleader. Oh god why did he think about that? Now he’ll be entertaining that thought when he…no, we’re not going down that route either. Clive, the gentleman, raised his arm and hooked it with hers. At his core, Clive was a romantic. A die-hard romantic but only so few people actually know that fact about him. By night’s end, Dallas would know this quite clearly. She’ll know it and she’ll hopefully want to do this more and more. Stopping at the passenger side, Clive opened the door to his truck for her. Yes, he was a gentleman. “Contrary to what many want to think, chivalry never died.”
