Name: Iranon Valerius Sigismund Alias: The Shadow Age: 18 Gender: Male Appearance: Iranon Clark is short, 4 ft 11in. He has black hair and sapphire blue eyes. He has a very pale complexion, almost vamperic. His face has a soft chin lie and could almost be described as slight effeminate. He has a more slender, athletic build. His Superhero outfit consists of a Black (suprise!) trenchcoat, with a waist coat that has silver accents. He also wears a large pair of almost steam punk sunglasses (during th day, at night he doesn't wear them, but they are in his waistcoat pocket) and a black detectives hat, he wears dress shoes, and dress pants. When he dresses as a civilian his outfit doesn't change as much as it probably should, the main differences is that the trenchcoat doesn't have an oversized collar just hanging out, he has less ostentatious sunglasses, and he wears a pure black baseball cap Superpower: He can control shadows/darkness an also make them solid, as well as being able to see perfectly in darkness, the trade-off is that he is sensitive to light and depending on the brightness of it affects him about as much as hitting daredevil with a sonic attack Skills: he is skilled in armed combat, swords, kusarigamas and a few other bladed weapons. He is also good at acrobatics. He is completely hopeless in unarmed combat though. Also he is a good cook, one of the few things he enjoys doing Equipment: Bullet proof waist-coat, a Lovecraft inspired pocket watch, a wrist watch, that has a cover on it (he prefers using the pocket watch but he likes to have as many enclosed things as possible so that he always has shadows to control) Personality: Despite his appearance, outfit and name Iranon is actually kinda shy (Especially around girls). People think that he doesn't stay long after a rescue because he is being dramatic, or he has another person to save, something like that. The real reason is that he doesn't want to risk staying too long and getting roped into an interview, or accidentally saying something wrong. He almost never has a smile on his face though, due to his childhood, but, if you can get him to smile, the shadows feel like a warm embrace Biography; Part 1: A Cheerful Child When Iranon was young he lived on the 4th floor of a building. His parents (Who actually were pretty nice people despite being completely wasted when they named him) could describe him as 'A precocious child, though upon occasion particularly obstreperous. All in all a fairly inquisitive and happy child.' Even when he was young Iranon was good at reading, climbing and acrobatics. His parents would occasionally find him in places ranging from the overhang over their back door, to the roof of the neighbors covered patio and more. Iranon's favorite books when he was young, was almos anything by Ann McCaffrey, H.P. Lovecraft, the chronicle of Narnia and Time Lord Fairytales. However that would change, when Iranon was 6, he was out, walking to the cornerstore a few blocks away when it happened. Part 2: A Fire Starter What happened was this: a downstairs neighbor's kid was having an argument with their parents when they awakened their abilities, unfortunately for them an for everyone else inside the building, his ability was to make and control fire. The house went up like a match doused in gasoline. Herod arrived fairly quickly, and were able to stop the fire from spreading to the adjacent houses. By that time however, the house was a burned husk, and all that was left from the charred remains of the house was a single book, it was a book that his father had ordered custom made, it had all the fiction of HP Lovecraft (except for 'Sweet Ermengarde') and also had all of the 'Time Lord Fairytales' it had a TARDIS in space surrounded by tentacles on the cover, an on the back was his favorite Lovecraft quote 'That which is not dead can eternal lie and with strange aeons even death may die' The only reason that it survived is because it was wrapped in a fire blanket that Iranon had gotten as a gag gift the previous year, but it was only in the fire blanket because Bertram, his father had put it their. Bertram was found curled around the book, with his signature Gear necklace on a leather strap also stuffed inside the fire blanket. The kid who started the fire would've survived the flames, and almost did, but the house fell down around him, and as he was on his knees over his parents, a piece came down an snapped his neck. Part 3: A not so flowery place with a very flowery name After the fire the police couldn't find any living family. And it's not like heroes are going to take in a random kid, who appears to have no powers. After all, training a replacement is one thing, becoming a parent is another. So Iranon was sent to 'The Peter Pan Orphanage for the Lost, the Forgotten and the Displaced. Unofficially it was named 'The Lost Boy's orphanage' or just 'Lost Boy'. With that name you would think that it was a wonderful place, run by nice people, where there is enough to eat, and everyone is treated fairly. If you thought that then here's your wake-up call to reality. The orphanage ha been around for a hundred years or more, it might've been like that once, but once in an act of 'charity' a rich person 'redesigned and refurbished' the orphanage, making it a testament to dystopian architecture . The design of the building was such that it almost reminded you of a prison, an instead if bright cheery colors, and wood paneling, or anything that made parts of it look like an actual home, the whole thing was brick. That was the only thing about it that wa nice. Even the proprietors weren't nice. They would drink with the money that was supposed to go towards blankets and clothes and other such things for the children, then beat them when they complained.
Iranon, would stand up for the littler kids and new arrivals. As invariably they reminded him of his younger brother and sister (twins). He would step in between the owners and the kids and take their beating on himself. One night when there was a new arrival, a child of 3-4 who complained to them about not getting enough food, and still being hungry. Drew (The male owner/proprietor) flew into a rage, saying things like 'Still hungry? Why Should I care?' and 'If its not enough maybe you'd fare better on the street!' Iranon interposed himself between them. Running between them then turning to face Drew and swinging his arm out while shouting "ENOUGH" when he did that however, his emotions were rampant enough, he had a long enough day. Whatever it was, that is when his powers decided to activate. Launching a bolt of solid shadow right between Drews eyes. He stood for a second literally dead on his feet, blood trickling from the hole in his forehead. then he fell backwards with a thud, lying perfectly flat. By he way he'd fallen you'd almost expect oak instead of bones. Then Nancy (Drews partner and the other owner of the orphanage ) came around the corner, saw Drew lying there, gave a high pitched, shrill scream. She then looked side to side, saw a wood handled broom, she snapped the head off if it, leaving it jagged. She then started brandishing it like a spear. While all this happened Iranon had turned around to face the kid, and pushed him into the arms of another one of the oldest kids, who were watching what had happened. "Go!" He told them as he turned back around. Looking around. He saw the bottle that Drew had been holding broke when he fell. Leaving the neck in his hands, with part of the bottle, all jagged and sharp. Quickly Iranon pried it out of Drews hand s and threw it at Nancy. Not even really trying to hit her, just trying to slow we down. But he did hit her right between the eyes. An although Iranon didn't know it at the time, when he threw the broken bottle he had basically imbued it with solid shadow, the result being that the 2 large points on the bottles jagged end became longer and hit Nancy right in the eyes, and got her brain. Making her drop the makeshift spear, and drop to her knees, before falling face down
TLDR: abusive owners of orphanage dead, Iranon's shadow abilities awakened. Part 4: Consequences Almost immediately after Iranon realized what he had done, he ran to their office and called 911 and told them what had happened. Soon the police arrived and took him into custody and questioned him about exactly what had happened. The police had a person there who's ability is to tell if someone is being honest. They verified the story, and the other kids corroborated his story. Due to the fact that Iranon was fairly young, and that it was self-defense nothing really came of it. However, one good thing came out of it though, the new people who were running the orphanage were genuinely good people. It also had another unintended effect. It got him on the radar of the heroes. One of which took him in and trained him in martial arts, but despite his mentor/master's best efforts, while Iranon got skilled in armed combat (especially with bladed weapons) he was useless in a unarmed match. His masters exact words were: 'Its the Damnedest thing. If i give you a dagger, or a sword, or that damned kusarigama you love so damn much you are excellent. But in a fisticuffs match your about as good as a kitten with no claws'
