The "Scan saved to data storage" notification let him know it worked, but there was no time to fiddle with that part of the OS on the goggles. Fortunately, it seemed staying still was working to keep the monsters at bay, but not to stop them from proceeding up out of the hole. Realizing they weren't smart enough to tell where he was when he stopped moving, he bolted from the battlefield proper and had his goggles attempt to detect useable objects around the street outside, hoping to see something he could repurpose. Normally, theft was not his way of doing things, but this was an emergency and lives were more important than property. One could say what the goggles were doing now was also "scanning", but this was basic detection functionality that didn't really count. It could not reveal information, only highlight the things he would need, and in some sense it was less a property of the goggles and more a property of his own imagination-based superpower to kitbash almost anything into existence.
