This isn't necessarily a 'grammar' thing, but lately it's been irrationally pissing me off anyhow.... "Meteoric rise." Meteors don't rise. Meteors only ever do the exact OPPOSITE of rising.

actual-grammar-wise my biggest pet peeve is when people attempt to Old-Engligh-ify their sentence in stupid ways. "I don't giveth a fuck."
