[color=white]”Silence…”[/color] The woman dressed in shadow sank from her perch in the canopy, lowering herself toward the ground until there was enough light from below to push away some of the dark clinging to her. She became the segmented body of a creature, armored and limbed and impossibly long though its exact size was difficult to discern as it was still half obscured. It leaned in close to its trapped prey.

The possessed's face began to lift unnaturally from its head as if the features of its mouth and nose and two eyes were made of a liquid that was being poured from a cup, poured over the face of the woman. The body immediately went rigid, its muscles tensing as if it were in pain, but there was no scream. No pleading or last words or any sound beyond the long, drawn out gasp of air as its last breath was pulled from its lungs. The eerie sound filled the forest and didn’t stop until all that remained when the exchange was finally over was the featureless head of a person who had just had their face removed.

What remained was unnatural: A living person with no eyes or nose or mouth. Unable to make a sound. Unable to see or smell. When the vines around them loosened enough to allow them to move on their own, they immediately dropped to their knees and began to feel around where their face had been.

What was originally the face of a woman had changed to that of the face that had only a moment ago belonged to the man on the ground, though it was now free of dirt and grime and dried blood.
