It made this whole thing seem normal. Though she knew better than to let her guard down. Her mind raced back to that concert. How safe she felt in that moment. How she had never had to worry before. Her security team had always been top-notch. She knew there were moments where fans got rowdy and out of control, though there had never been any threats, verbal or otherwise. She knew this wasn't the case; likely, she had been protected from it. How that night altered her life forever. How she occasionally had nightmares about it to this day. How it triggered her powers' awakening, which only further cemented her future. How her PR team had done their best to control the narrative, but how she felt less than whenever they pushed the lie that she wasn't what the Internet was claiming her to be: a mutie, a freak. The whole thing changed her course, but allowed her to control. She got to determine what the future held. And the future was the school and that meant this lovable group of delinquents, and helping them find their lost teacher. The new, new girl (newer than her, at least, considering the first time they met the girl was encased in ice) droned on about what to expect. Millicent felt like she was a toddler being told the rules and how to behave, but she couldn't deny the girl seemed to know what she was talking about. Leave it to the experts. She scooted in for the selfie. A final moment before venturing into the unknown. Gideon ran in headfirst, both brave and incredibly stupid, but Millicent had to give her credit. Slowly, the others followed. "This is going to make a killer set list when we get back. Maybe I can incorporate Otherworld music into my tracks? Exciting!" She didn't know what to expect when she set foot into the fairy circle. She was lowkey kinda bummed when it seemed like she had just been plopped down. She managed her footing, difficult though it was given she landed on sand. She looked around. She definitely wasn't in Kansas anymore unless Kansas looked like the desert. What she also hadn't expected was feeling a breeze on her legs. She was sure she wore pants when she came to the tree, but she looked down to see her clothing had changed. She was now wearing a white lacey dress with brown patterned accents and belt. Intricate flowers were woven in throughout. She was also wearing brown, leather ankle boots that matched the belt. She spun around and the dress swayed nicely. "Holy crap! This is so cute! So I guess the Story Magic or whatever is responsible? Makes sense then. The people here would likely look at us weird if we came wearing flannel or Lululemon leggings. She wanted to run around and explore, to check in with the others and see their fantasy setting fits. That is until she heard Sabine start screaming. She knew, deep down, it was given with the best intentions, but Sabine still bristled. "I'll be sure to keep him safe. He's my dog, after all. Bold to assume I would do otherwise." She took a breath. It wasn't an insult, she told herself. "Sorry, I'm nervous. Thank you for the warning. I'll keep an eye on him. He may not look it, but he's a fierce guard dog when he wants to be." Which wasn't often, but still. The others seemed at ease, which was nice. Inside, she was a mangled mess of emotions. She did some meditative exercises that Dr. Whitehall had taught her, which helped somewhat. But she knew once she was on the other side of this that she was a step closer to seeing her mother. Sabine had gone over it again and again in her mind what she would say to her when she saw her. The result was usually some form of righteous anger, mixed with relief, mixed with sadness and fear. Anger usually won out. She stepped closer to Leah, grabbing her hand and squeezing it for, really, her own comfort. "Whatever happens over there, I know you have my back," she whispered. She got into the group selfie and plastered on a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. She hoped they would use a filter, at least. But the time was upon them as people started stepping through. She wanted to go in with Leah at her side, but one at a time was how it needed to happen. So she took another deep breath and, one foot in front of the other, stepped in. She hit the ground and.... Sabine's breath was knocked out of her body. She fell to her knees as an intense pain ripped through her body. It was pain unlike anything she had ever felt before. It was as if her nervous system was attacking her from the inside, and the only solution she could think of was to rip it out completely, if only to satiate the pain. She started screaming involuntarily, like it needed to escape before she imploded. "Gah, fuck! It hurts!" The pain didn't relent. What the hell was going on? She could barely see in front of her; the pain was that intense. She tried to crawl forward, but found that if she moved, it made it worse. Or was that her imagination? Either way, the only thought that ran through her head as she heard Jean-Luc bark, pleading and begging someone to come help, was [i]"I'm dying.
