Liam had just enough time to see Bridgette coming before the Ampharos wrapped her arms around him. “Oh!” The unexpected force nearly sent him backward. A firm arm braced him across the back before he could lose his balance completely, and Liam looked over his shoulder at Atlas. “Thank you,” he said, slightly out of breath but smiling. “That would have been embarrassing.” Once Bridgette released him, Liam straightened his vest and looked up at her. There was no irritation in his expression. If anything, he looked delighted. “I adore the enthusiasm!” he said with a laugh. “Especially when it involves meeting me!” He glanced toward Maeve. “No need to apologize. I’ve survived far worse than being enthusiastically adored.” Boo had retreated behind Liam’s leg during the commotion, his disguise pressed against the pink fabric of Liam’s trousers. When Whisper approached, however, he slowly peeked around him. Liam watched quietly as the Zoroark crouched several feet away. Boo remained where he was at first. Then one crooked ear lifted. He shuffled half a step forward before stopping again, watching Whisper with cautious curiosity. “She must have made a good impression,” Liam said softly. “He normally takes much longer to consider introducing himself.” His attention returned to Maeve when she asked about the tournament. “I know almost nothing,” he admitted cheerfully. “Which is concerning, considering I’ve come all the way from Galar for it.” He reached into his messenger bag and took out his own purple envelope. “I know it’s exclusive, there will be powerful trainers there, and someone involved has excellent taste in stationery. Aside from that, they’ve been rather mysterious.” Liam slipped the invitation back into his bag. “I figured I would learn more once I reached Jubilife.” His eyes brightened. “Although knowing someone else is as confused as I am is reassuring.”
