His parents, Victoria and Andrew McPhee owned and invested in many businesses, and acquired a large fortune. They spend most of their time attending to their many businesses, they barely had time for their son. His parents basically threw money at him, and hoped the issue of having to raise a kid would take care of itself. Whether that was hiring the best nannies they could to take care of him, to outright giving large cash allowances so he could get himself whatever he wanted.

Of course, throwing cash at your kid is not a substitute for parenting them. Ryan grew up with a huge superiority complex, but also a strong sense of loneliness. Ryan developed both a strong sense of entitlement and an equally powerful need to be noticed. Praise became something he pursued relentlessly, and being ignored often felt worse to him than outright criticism.

Ryan found the attention he wanted through theater. Performing gave him a place where people were required to watch him, applaud him, and recognize the effort he put into being exceptional. Before transferring to Harbor Crest, he served as president of his previous school’s theater club and frequently earned leading roles in its productions. He also began building a sizable following online, using social media to showcase his fashion, performances, and increasingly polished personal brand.

His family eventually moved from Los Angeles to Belmont Heights, where Ryan enrolled at Harbor Crest High School. He views the move as both an interruption to his carefully planned rise to stardom and a new opportunity to expand his audience.
