In what felt like an eternity, his head eventually clattered onto the stone floor and the last thing he saw before coming to a stop was his own ruined corpse. Here we go again, he had time to think before the specks of light in the hollows of his eyes dimmed. Then there was darkness... and light. And a voice. "Another heroic sacrifice, huh?" it said. Bones opened his eyes and squinted as he saw a woman crouching over him, her slender figure silhouetted against the setting sun and fair face illuminated by the glow of healing magics in her hands. "Saria, is that you?" he asked. "What do you think?" At once, tears welled up in his eyes and he lifted a hand to his face to wipe them away. Shocked at the sensation, he moved his hand away to look at it and then the rest of his body, and he saw that he was whole. Living. Alive. "How is this possible?" he breathed. For a moment Saria fell silent as she paused in her work, turned to look Bones in the eye and eventually replied, "It's not." Seeing the confusion on his face, she continued, "You're only seeing me because the necrotic energies that kept you moving is putting you back together again and your mind decided this was the only way to make sense of it all. That golem really did a number on you." Upon hearing her words, the sunset vanished and Bones looked around to see the cold harsh reality of where he was. Still inside the pyramid with the golem still standing over him and the drider's voice drifting in out of view, no doubt casting a spell. "Hey, you done yet Saria?" another familiar voice spoke. "Bones is missing out." "Yeah, this thing will be long dead before he gets in on the action." Recognizing the voices of his old friends, Bones looked around as well as he was able to as a dismembered head but only saw ghostly shades rising from the floor. "Don't bother," Saria said, noticing the attempt. "Those voices are just more hallucinations." Bones turned his gaze upon her only to see yet another shade in her place, then slowly and gently, his head lifted up from the floor and was placed back on top of his reassembled shoulders with a crackling of necrotic energies. "There you go, all done," Saria's voice spoke from the shade without really speaking. "You've lost half your ribcage, and several pieces of your spine, but you still got two working legs and an arm. Best I can do." As Bones drifted in and out of lucidity, he decided that if it was a choice between delusions and reality, he much preferred the delusion and so forced himself to see Saria again, mentally imposing the image of her over that of the shade. "I'm sorry for all of this you know," she said, spreading her hands in a gesture of conciliation. "That spell I put on you was meant to protect more than just your mind." "It's alright," Bones replied before looking around, seeing the faces of his long dead comrades all smiling back at him. It made him smile inwardly too as he continued, "Thank you for everything." Then turning towards the golem, Bones chuckled with delight as he drew his dagger from the belt still attached to his hip and then rising into mad laughter, he howled, "COME ON THEN! LET'S FINISH WHAT WE STARTED!" One last fight, he thought as he limped forward with cracks in every bone of his body and dagger raised up high in his single remaining hand. One last adventure.
