Flying across Sinnoh was a truly majestic sight to behold. A massive mountain range seemed to overlook the continent like a titan of an older time, a ceaseless bastion of nature that refused to wither. The whole region looked like it coalesced in the center, gradually smoothing and evening out, blotched with a multitude of other natural wonders: Rivers and lakes dotted and tripped the rugged countryside, gathering short forest in patches about them. In a lot of ways, it was a lot like Johto. The massive central mountain peak rivaled, perhaps even surpassed mt. silver. She mind sparkled with wonder at the potential to unpack a whole new region. Practically a whole new world. The trouble was, it was hard to bask in that raw beauty and potential when you where clinging to your mount for dear life. Multiple times she had fallen off Fynn, growing an unhealthy calmness to nearly plummeting to her death. Even with all her grip strength, even with Bisty's webs to buckle her in, Fynn was just to strong for this sort of adventure. How could she complain about that? For a short while, they had actually fallen into a steady groove, coasting off the tailwinds of a group of staravia. She enjoyed her time looking at the Sinnoh landscape in awe, braif as it was. Soon enough, a lightning bolt crackled through the air. From down below, Elena could see the culprits: two young trainers battling. She never got a good view of who was winning. Fynn reacted to the Lightning the way he did with most things: fear. If she was holding onto Fynn for dear life before, then what ensued was a grapple for her very essence. Fynn was moving erratically, swirling and spiraling. He let out a frightful bellow that Elena knew meant he was terrified. The world became a blur, and for a moment Elena learned that should Pokémon training not pan out, then she could be the queen of the rodeo. The wind whipped by so fast in sucked the air from her lungs, but despite this, she managed to call out to her massive Pokémon. The sound was carried with the wind, never reaching the one Gyarados stampede that was Fynn. Fortunately for Elena, something else did. THUD! Fynn slammed headfirst into a tree. The tree bent, and Elena winced as she heard the crack of its thick trunk against her poor Pokémon's skull. Elena was thrust forward with all the built-up momentum, slamming into the tree herself. The two of them sank down to the forest floor, slowly gathering themselves. No doubt, Fynn had taken the brunt of the impact. His eyes had glazed over from the impact and he was a jumbled mess of fin and scales. Elena was used to these sorts of antics at this point. Her mind reminded her she had an obligation. Even as her sight momentarily blurred and her mind was muddled, she felt that thought rise above all else. Fynn was hurt. She rushed out, feeling for him until she found his head, the image of his cranium coming into view. He groaned when she touched the wound and tried to retreat instinctively. He hesitated, though, then nuzzled into her grasp. A significantly more pathetic whimper rumbled out from deep within the magnificent beast. She cooed back. "Oh you poor thing, are you ok?" Her vision slowly fixed on the injury at hand. Fynn was a wimp but his body was strong. Strong enough that a blow to the head even at breakneck speeds was only enough to bruise and break the skin. Elena wiped some blood from the split wound, and Fynn winced, practically shivering at the pain. "Sorry! Don't worry, buddy. I've got something for this" Elena rummaged through her bag, searching for one of the potions she had brought with her. It wasn't much, but if it could soothe the pain Elena considered it well worth the cost. Fynn huffed and puffed heavily, the way a horse does after a race. Now it was her turn to wince as his hot, fishy breath wafted over her. She hardly cared. Oscar smelled much worse, and she had learned to deal with that. Elena stopped looking through her bag as she heard something in the distance. It sounded like voices. They sounded strange, like they where speaking gibberish. She knew the people of Sinnoh spoke the same language. The captain did at least. She was starting to regret not researching this region more and more, "Human, or... Whatever you are! Identify! You nearly caused damage to Nanocorp property! What you do, being so reckless?" Then a voice rang out. Elena jumped, tossing the potion she had found into the air and fumbling with it until it eventually clattered against the ground. The voice was certainly human, but they spoke so strangely. She looked around and saw no one and backed up closer to the protection of her massive Pokémon. He was still whining, but just being closer to him brought her a feeling of safety. "Oh! I am very sorry! I lost control of my Pokémon there for a moment." She gestured to Fynn, who currently had his tongue flopped out and had rolled over onto his back, dramatically displaying as though he had died in her neglect. She couldn't shake a feeling of unease, though. Alone in the forest, speaking to a disembodied voice that uttered fractured sentences. She had heard stories like this before; none of them had a happy ending. "Fynn here gets spooked easily. I am just trying to get somewhere far away in a big hurry," She added, pushing the urgency of her quest. She would likely need to give Fynn a well-needed break, and she wasn't sure how many more times she was willing to risk her life for a timely entrance.
