How about a sudden event happens that garners the attention of the whole town. We could then introduce ourselves and what we were doing in town at the time of the event, and all gather at the event's location. From there, we could start the RP. 

Also, this way, if we can agree on an event, we can all be writing our first posts at around the same time, then the first person to post will have priority after the last person to post finally gets around to it. And that we we don't have to flip a coin to decide the order haha.
