Ascot was not built to throw things around; his ranged capabilties were quite limited. Nevertheless, he kept throwing Fira after Fira, while using Reflect against Lucus' counterattacks. He also used his Shotlock whenever it was replenished. Briefly, the boy thought of putting himself under duress so that he can use his Limit Break again, but decided not to; he was going to use his own strength.

In response to Jake's questions, Ascot said:

"Perfect timing! We need someone to either throw a lot of big ranged attacks that guy's way, or to take the hits from his wind powers. As for his identity..." 

"As for his identity, that person's name is Lucus - which is apparently a normal name in Radiant Garden. He was the husband of Rose, my new adoptive mother." he then gestured at Rose, "He was once a kind, sweet person, but when Elyse was born," he gestured to Elyse, the little girl behind Joshua, "he turned abusive; he managed to get around Rose's greater power by threatening to form a vaccum around her. Eventually, though, he lost his heart to the Darkness and became a Heartless."

"However, I think that either someone killed both his Heartless and his Nobody, or this is Lucus' Nobody, who has identical memories to him. Nevertheless, he told us that if we defeat him, he'll leave us forever. If he defeats us...well, he gets to do whatever he wants to Elyse."
