warning for gore! sorry! Yuriy was at peace as he walked now that he was mostly out of the harsh lighting of the sun. He didn’t know if you could actually get a hangover from driving, but he was pretty sure he had one. He knew he had gotten fairly out of range from the camp because he couldn’t feel any powers--usually there was a faint pulling that he could feel when someone with powers was within his range, about a half mile, but there was none of that now. It was pretty peaceful, the disconnect. What wasn’t peaceful were the terrible noises he heard coming from the left of him, and he was too curious not to go in that direction. When he rounded a particularly thick tree, he came face to face with a moderately sized brown bear that appeared to be caught in a bear trap. He took a step back, but the bear snarled at him and lashed out from the pain of being caught. It hit him in the chest, and its claws gouged into his skin, ripping open his chest from sternum to abdomen. It knocked him off balance and he fell onto his back, and from there the bear lunged at him, landing square on his chest and cracking most of his ribs just from doing so. It was hard to breathe--one of his lungs had been punctured, and he could feel something slimy on his torso before the excess of pain made him stop feeling entirely. He reached down, barely capable of it, and pushed on what he was sure were his intestines. The last thing he saw before passing out--and bleeding out--was the bear’s great maw closing over his face, leaving him in darkness.
