The Companies? The founders? They're just what that gold consists of. Old money, new money, doesn't matter—they'll last as long as the world doesn't find their impurities. Eventually, they'll be run through enough that they finally rust and bend under their own weight. Crumble and fall like they're destined to. Our job is to wait, watch, cope, and hope to God it doesn't happen in our lifetime." -James during an interview for The Economist "Why isn't my son on any of those magazines? Buzzkill, I tell you. Not a bone in his body that isn't work, work, work. He'll try all he wants. He'll kick and scream. But, he's a Kerrington. He's the wealthiest boy this side of the world. He'll come crawling back home because it's all he's ever known. I tell you that now. You wait and see. A few years from now, he'll be the hottest scandal ever plastered on the cover of every damned magazine. I guarantee it." -Thomas Kerrington to a wayward journalist whilst drunk during a fundraiser. Earned a seething response from James the next day. Name: James Kerrington Nicknames: Jimmy, Jay, Kerrington Age: 33 Place of Birth: Los Angeles, California Occupation: CEO of Private Real-estate Firm (Kerrington Horizons) Personality/History: Old money is a wonderful net for an heir or heiress and a wonderful stockpile to provide services and outlets not normally considered a hobby in regular society. For the Kerringtons, this range somewhat true, but not for the person expected. The child wasn't James, it was his parents—a family trait that tended to skip generations. To gather deeper, where the family stands on the social ladder, one must traverse years back, to the point where Los Angeles—California even—was first founded. The Kerringtons kept their mantle then and were the first to provide the budding territory plots of land. It was a gamble, but the risk was well worth it. High-time in the gold rush of California, the Kerringtons gathered their small fortune and piled even more as people rushed to gather at the prospect of money. Their eyes weren't on the gold because that would be too simple and would yield variables that fluctuated far too much. They had their eyes on the greedy eyed people looking for a place to settle down and, even more so, the people who sought to gain from their greed as well. Not a soul could get a valuable plot of land to create a business or home without first going to the Kerringtons. From there, it grew exponentially, fell for a decade or two, was renewed in the wake of the Great Depression and continued on fiercely. The company grew and expanded, as did the family's affluence, until they had requisitioned themselves a platform in which they could reign their end of the stock market for as long as the world would allow, and if they didn't go down in history, then they'd quietly shuffle off into the annals of time, no fuss about it. A mainly private firm, Kerrington Horizons provides the wealthy all across the globe with stately mansions and palaces to sell or buy, from island paradises to middle eastern expanses. As well, they also give plot of lands to those willing to buy it, whether to create a beach resort or add to the chain of hotels. They've got their hands in just about every large and predominately wealthy controlled areas of the world, in which they provide the best for the best. This is where James currently comes in. Heading the company after his father's early retirement, he deals with everything explained prior, meaning he's either often in an office skyline or on the other side of the planet, discussing terms, contracts, all that fun business stuff in order to either convince a buyer or assure a seller. And there's nothing he's loved more than being the head of a large firm, dealing with things his father could currently care less about. It's his outlet, what he uses to flush away the nonsense of highfalutin California life and the childishness of both his parents. He drowns himself in paperwork simply because he can't stand the reality of his situation—a kid forced to be the adult while his parents did what the hell they wished. His father's retirement was sprung on him, and even in all his preparedness he certainly wasn't ready to be the head of a company that has been worked on from the ground up since his great, great, great grandfather came on the Mayflower. Necessary exaggeration. Even as a child, his parents would do things like this. His father, Thomas, early in his relationship with his mother, Raina, had decided he couldn't settle with just one woman and proceeded to introduce mistresses to the family. He even relished in his mother's turmoil, as if he was playing a game and winning it. Of course, having been raised in a like-minded society, she retaliated and it'd become a damn game for them to play throughout his childhood. It was normal. It was home. But, James quickly took to resenting their actions, and further closed himself off to them. He drowned himself in education and work, let himself turn a blind eye to his parent's shenanigans in private clubs, yachts, wherever their circle of closely knit 'friends' and 'associates' could happily do as they pleased. They'd built an empire, all of them, and held an unreasonable amount of power within their palms and proceeded to act like playing around like socially depraved lunatics. A fire seethed deep inside James, one that he would continue to hold against his parents for who knew how long. He found himself head of a company, a company his father gave up for golf and social immersion, in a bachelor pad on a strip where he sold the majority of the homes to people of the same relative affluence. Enough away from his parent's to be content with where he was in his life and to think correctly enough to guide himself. Extra: -Isn't one for fancy commodities, but has a specific taste. From car brands (Mercedes) to home decor (Ultra Modern French) to pets even (Samoyed and Egyptian Mau). -Travels often, but ultimately loves relaxing quietly at home like a normal person, with a bucket of popcorn and a nice movie. Though, he's not inexperienced in the tricks and trades of high society and often finds himself at fundraisers and alike events. -Family consists of his father, Thomas Kerrington, and his mother, Raina Cooper-Kerrington.
