K_n_M - Basically you create a character that is very similar to you, but instead the character living a life that is similar to your life, they have something completely different. (So, I'm a 19yo girl who goes to uni.. My character would be a 19yo girl with same personality as me, but instead of going to uni, they might have gone to war.)
