Over a hundred years ago a grand war was raged, so fierce it is still know as "The Great War" thousands died over a decade of warfare. The combatants the very forces of good and evil itself. At the head of the forces of good, The Paladins, the self-appointed defenders of what is right and the law against a confederation of every dark force that could be rallied together. For this bloody decade an entire continent was on fire, it was not until the eighth year that a winner seemed to be closed, the Drow seized Agannalu and broke the back of the gnomes. A civil war in The Grey Peaks came into full swing pulling many dwarves from the fight and the siege of Ironhold was broken when the orcs smashed into the Paladins siege lines. King Korris of the minotaurs began a slash and burn tactic on the moon elves slowly destroying their entire forest to force them to fight head to head. For two desperate years the forces of good tried to hold out but were slowly pushed south until they stood with on foot in the burning sands of the Great Desert. There they were shattered forever and cast into the desert to die a slow death. They did not die though, travelling far the survivors and refugees with them built a new city that would be free from the tyranny of the evil empires and readied to defend against any and all comers. Meanwhile in the green lands the people who lived there prepared themselves to be slaughtered and destroyed. Instead they found their new rulers little different from the old. In Vektis it is said the name of every temple was changed and every statue was given a new head but little else happened. In Korris the ports which expected themselves to be sacked and burned instead found new trade flowing as the minotaurs controlled the pirates and kept the trade lanes safe. Those of Ubara found the guards of their cities and towns dismissed, changed out for new orcoid infantry who did little more than punish crime with severe measures and collect taxes with equal gusto leaving the humans and other people to otherwise do as they please. Perhaps only in the Drow Lands dd the people recieve most of what they expected, almost all non-Drow were enslaved though here things did change. The Drow knew the foolishness of slaughtering slaves without point and so while not treated well, those that served their masters well found themselves rewarded. This is the world you now find yourself in, one where evil now rules though perhaps is not like what one would expect. The Map - Arrenmora
Oraibus: Formed by centaurs and their human allies it lays claim to the westernmost areas of the High Reach mountains as well as the great northern plains of Arrenmora along with all of the woods which they take of their name from of Oraibus. They are largely isolationist since the Great War dealing as little as possible with the outside world the humans taking to many small towns with a few cities while the centaurs remain largely nomadic all the clans meeting every year to discuss the ruling of the land. Drow Lands: An informal name for the Drow who rule almost all of the High Reach mountains once controlled by the dwarves and gnomes. Now it is over a dozen feudal kingdoms with the largest belonging to the former gnomish stronghold of Agannalu. There almost all non-Drow are enslaved the primary slaves being gnomes, humans, and dwarves. Interestingly enough the younger generation of the slave races have been noted for accepting their lot in life more having been born into it with young gnomes and humans more willingly working for their overlords Untamed Lands: A cold and harsh but wet land the only ones willingly to brave the Untamed Lands are generally minotaur pirates and smugglers making short stops. The very territory of the Untamed Lands is known to be dangerous with fierce beasts and deadly plants but also there live many barbaric tribes of humans known for killing and eating even other sentient races who enter their territory. Korris Kingdom: Named in honor of King Korris, the minotaur who united the four islands and lead the minotaur in a war of conquest in the Great War to seize much of the lands east of the high Reach mountains. Much of that land is still under human domain but the humans there now serve their minotaur overlords. The four great minotaur isles and their eastern holdings are known for their great trade ports and are considered an excellent place for anyone to disappear. Ubara: Both the name of the land and it's capitol the vast steppes of Ubara are ruled by a great orc king and his rakshasa allies. Considered the future of the entire orc race they proved that had changed during the Great War marching armies with great military precision and backed by rakshasa they carved out a large swathe of territory now the 20 orc chieftains and the 10 Rakshasa Sheikhs serve under a single unified king who rules all from a wholly orc built city. Kingdom of Vektis: Early in the Great War there were many human warlords each viaing for power. One rose above the rest and subjugated them, Eldrit Garrose put almost every human warlord under his power and seized a large kingdom as a result. He seized the large city of Vektis as his capitol and renamed the city "Ironhold" from there he held out a 3 year siege by The Paladins when the came to reclaim it. Eldrit's son now rules the feudal kingdom of his father ever wary of the return of The Paladins. Shadow Woods: The last Elven domain, the woods elves of the Shadow Woods survived through neutrality and extreme measures levied against any who encroached upon their neutrality. They allow free travel through their domain but shun outsiders with everything short of violence which is perhaps only to avoid sparking a conflict and facing the same fate as the moon elves who had their entire forest burned and cut to the ground to force them out. Dread Reach: A nightmarish jungle land ruled by necromancers. It is rare for a living being to voluntarily enter the land there knowing the atrocities committed there by the horrific masters of there. As a result almost nothing is known except for the undead infested jungles. Grey Peaks: Once a powerful dwarven territory a civil war sparked within the mountains there and an invasion from orcs resulted in the entire mountain range being depopulated. The war left no survivors of the dwarves who lived there or the orcs who invaded in time monsters came up from deep within the earth and now terrible monsters and tribal races live there. These mountains are an adventuring hotspot though with the riches of the now dead dwarves the main draw to it. Free City: Founded in the wake of the Great War by refugees and the remaining members of The Paladins this city is now the capitol of nothing but endless wastes and a few oasis. The Paladins rule with a mailed fist to maintain their way of life and to prepare for an invasion they feel is inevitable. The last bastion of good rulers they stand resolute forever making ready for over a century to prepare for a siege. Every well, every oasis is ready to be poisoned and tunnels have already been dug to undermine any attempt on the walls. It is the most fearsome fortress ever constructed with sheer curtain walls thick enough to shrug off any siege equipment and every man and woman conscripted for 2 years into the men-at-arms of the Paladins. The council of 12 rule with city with their word as law for they are the defenders of law.
