Can you give me a use-case for the tracking feature?

It reminds me of Facebook's messaging system where it tells you exactly when someone read a message, which often feels like a violation of my privacy. 

I never used it in vBulletin, so I might be overlooking some useful aspects of it. Or I might not understand how it works.
