Yeah I was gonna RP as the girl as well, though because she can't verbally communicate she'll be more of a minor character ( at least to start) 

The pups part of my story isn't that important if you need it for yours.

Also I was thinking he has a radio translator implanted in his chest. The female had the radio too, but the scientists detached it from her. Though, because she retains human intelligence like the male, she is able to communicate in nonverbal ways.

I was thinking lion sized, but I'm very flexible if that doesn't work.
