Technology-wise, they are medieval and the elementals (called the Sendai) are forbidden to use their powers to reshape nature. Therefore, much of the manual labour is done without the use of the Spark.

Gunpowder may make an appearance but definitely not pistols and rifles and the like. Horses are the main form of transport though the southern people have been known to use ox carts.
