INFERNO Elijah Stoker had not had a good night. The constant racket above his head as he had laid in bed kept him up most of the night. This was the third time in a week and he was getting tired of it. He had half a mind to go up there and make them shut down whatever get together they were having so he could get some rest. He thought about going to crash on a friends couch, but he didn't, hoping beyond hope that they would stop before the sun came up. His hope was crushed when sunlight filtered in he next morning and he could still hear the overwhelming beat rattle things. His pillow wrapped around his head in a futile effort to shut it out. With a tired sigh he rose out of bed, rubbing the tired from his eye hoping to stay awake a little longer. His whole body ached with tiredness the last few days, walking and running around New York City looking for a new job after he had lost his at the hospital. It hadn't even made sense to cut some of the job that they had. Everyone had more or less choked up to cutting corners to have more money. He had done good work there, sure he wasn't a doctor, he was just a janitor, but he did work at it. He'd gone to school for something else but janitor had been the job he could get. Initially nothing he was proud of he did good work and so was proud of that. The new member to the unemployed masses was lazy and slow getting out of bed, it was a side effect of no sleep, he would likely crash soon regardless. Maybe if he could get to Mitch's place he could get some sleep. However, Elijah's mother's apartment was closer and she'd make him a nice hot meal for free too. That sort of decided it, he was gonna go home for breakfast and a nap. So dressing quickly in a t-shirt jeans and a jacket, Stoker pulled open his door, locking it behind with the key and continued on down out of the brownstone. Making it across town by subway he gets there before noon, the crowds are as thick as he's ever seen them, pushing past a few folks is necessary before he can come up to the surface and get fresher air. Because this is NYC, and real fresh air doesn't live here. It's another long walk but Elijah finds himself in his old building, his old floor, in front of his old door. The one he'd go through day after day going and coming from school and so many other things. When he had started dating Kelsey he was living here. He doesn't bother with a knock, his mother never locks this door as little sense as it makes. She's never had a problem with someone coming in unwanted though. It's weird to anyone who knows it, there's no clear explanation. Inside walls were white, mostly, she painted the walls every few years to make sure they stayed that way. A few knickknacks and trinkets line the walls an shelves, a small library occupies the shelf on the left wall. It looks homey, pleasant. Contrasting with what his own domicile looked like now, a messy, poorly lit living space barely lived in while he went looking for a job. Strolling through the front door Eli looked around for his mom, the lights were on, so she must be home. Wandering through the small apartment he made his way to where her bedroom door was, cracked this time, usually closed if she were asleep, or open if his mother was awake, it sends up an alarm in his brain because he could only think that that someone had broken in and..something that happened. So he doesn't even think twice about pushing open the door, Elijah was silent until he walked into the room and he could see why the door was in an odd state. "Mom?" "God!" He felt like he was gonna be sick, that was his mother! And she was. Ugh. He was definitely going to be sick. He should have just gone into his old room and crashed. This would have rather this be something he'd never know about and that he would have preferred. His mother, Lucia, however, while she didn't throw up, all the blood ran into her legs and her face went pale. She wasn't expecting her son, she wasn't expecting anyone and so had given no thought to locking and closing doors. Getting out of bed, putting something on quickly she chased after her boy. "Elijah? Hun?" But too little too late, Elijah had already left the apartment, trying to erase what he just saw from his brain. Ugh, he had never wanted to see his mother with someone, who does really? He'd have to try another place to sleep. Kelsey and Mitch were decent to good options. Mitch was closer, but he was at work a the hospital.
