This is a WIP.
]Nation Name: Stormhold Flag: Population: 10,000 Location on Map: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj222/ande012/storm.jpg Form of Government: Monarchy Head of State: King Torik Valgardsson (31): A few years ago a Viking by the name of Torik Valgardsson arrived on new lands with his raiding party. Instead of raiding the locals, however, Torik quickly settled the region. His city was known as Stormhold, mocking the terrible storms that nearly destroyed the entire fleet. For the past few years Torik has been trying to adjust to life in this new colony, and while his people are ignorant to change, Torik looks to interact with and hopefully gain the trust of the other nations here. Heir to State: Valius Valgardsson (33): Torik's brother, who has no desire to rule. He is a fierce, capable, and loyal warrior and will not back down from a fight. He is much more aggressive and hot-tempered than Torik, sometimes dangerously so. Torik looks to him for his wartime needs, as he tends to inspire everyone in and around Stormhold to fight for Torik. Valius is a firm believer in the pagan gods and absolutely despises Christians. Important Political Characters: Gyda Toriksdottir (12) - Daughter of Torik. Torik holds her in high regard. She was born with a spinal deformity that causes intense pain in her back. At times Gyda will remain paralyzed for several minutes while going through excruciating pain. Jarl Bjorn Knot-beard - A strict and bloodthirsty man from Scandinavia. He and his Viking raiders sought refuge in Stormhold before realizing the possibilites to be gained here. He officially settled down and joined Torik's in ruling Stormhold. Bjorn is a tall, burly man, but his plans are far different from Torik's. Cnut the Unproven - A cowardly and weak, but intelligent and cultured man. Cnut is one of Torik's advisers, and his input is highly regarded as he is one of the more level-headed Norsemen in Stormhold. While Cnut seems friendly and seems to have good intentions, this is all part of his sly cunning. Capital: Stormhold Capital Population: 10,000 Capital Description: When Torik and his landing party arrived on these 'new lands' they formed a small camp. This camp served as a 'beach head' to other Vikings raiders and hundreds upon hundreds of Viking ships flocked to the safety of Torik's camp before heading off again. Torik soon set about the building of his Great Hall and ordered his laborers to construst dwellings. Within months the camp became a fledgling town, and would later grow into a massive city. It is surrounded by a low stone wall, with only one entrance. A harbor rests on the easternmost portion of the city, and most of the structures are wooden with some stonework becoming more common. Location of Capital: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj222/ande012/storm.jpg Other Major Towns : None Location of Major Towns: Does not apply. Traits Chosen: Start Off Points +2 Professional Army -3 Small Army +2 Sealegs -1 "I'm not a racist but..." +/- 0 'Holy Hell' +3 Free Market -1 Strong Industry -2 Social Dynamics: The King and his Men: The King, his family, and his friends enjoy the warm, safe quarters of the Great Hall, where hot meals, fresh wine, and servant-women are free for the taking. The Commonfolk: The Commonfolk refer to the everyday people within Stormhold. Fishermen, masons, builders, lumbderjacks, hunters, farmers, miners, etc. Most of the Commonfolk train, and have access to standard weapons and armor. Some of the more experienced Commonfolk have well-made weapons and armor given by the King himself. Viking Raiders: Not necessarily part of the community, Stormhold serves as a 'checkpoint' for many Viking raiders in the area. Most are told to stay within camps on the outside of the city. The Rabble: Similar to the Commonfolk. The Rabble, however, choose not to fight. They are regarded as weaklings and cowards, including the slaves. Religion: Pagans (Norse Mythology), although King Torik is trying to convert to Christianity for the sake of his people. Important Events or Holidays: Founding Day: The celebration of the founding of Stormhold. Stability: Military: Rabble: When desperate times come, the King must rally everyone he can, including those who do not wish to fight. They are frightened, undisciplined, and shaky peasants who will break easily. In other words: cannon-fodder. Shield-Thanes: Shield-Thanes are individuals who have been trained to fight for most of their life (if they weren't laboring, they were probably training). They are well-trained, well-equipped, disciplined warriors. All of them have shields and use them to form shield-walls. They usually carry a spear, an axe, and/or a sword into combat with them, and choose to wear little to no armor. They serve a more defensive purpose, to hold the line in combat, and to defend against archer fire. If the battle is in their favor they tend to drop their shields, break formation and disperse to defeat the remnants of their enemies. Axemen: When the Shield-Thanes have done their job or cannot defend, the Axemen are sent forth. Axemen are veteran warriors, and have proven themselves in battle. While many carry their namesake (a battleaxe), some may wield greatswords and warhammers. They choose to wear no armor, go completely berserk in combat, and are the main offensive unit in the king's army. They sometimes lose control and ignore orders, never retreat and have never routed. Archers: Those who are to weak to fight as Shield-Thanes or Axemen are given bows and arrows and then grouped up to fire on the enemy from afar. King's Guard]/u]: Horses are a rare commodity in Viking culture. During war, all available horses are rounded up and given to the King, who then sorts them out to his Royal Guards. As such some of the King's Guard ride atop horses, although the rest of them may be foot soldiers with the best equipment in the army. Army Strength: (This will be rolled for you.) Navy Strength: (This will be rolled for you.) Industry:/b] Varan industry is more or less based on survival rather than luxuries. They hunt for food and clothing, farm for food, fish for food, chop wood for construction or firewood, and forge armor and weapons for warfare. This is the relative basis of 'industry' for these people. Main Exports: Fur Lumber Arms (weapons and armor) Main Imports: Grain Stone Metalworking Resources (anything used to create weapons and armor) GDP: (This will be rolled for you.)
