"Wow. um... stop, please stop." Mayumi pushed her glasses up on her nose, and scooted a few feet away from the thrashing mermaid, not wanting to scare her even more. She understood why the mermaid would be terrified, but hoped that she would eventually calm down and see that she meant no harm. She only wanted to help and perhaps get to know the mermaid. It would be really fantastic if they could even become friends. It would be like a forbidden friendship, which on this island was seen as taboo. Most likely seen the same way for merfolk as well. "I won't hurt you. Oh gosh, I hope you can understand English. Can you?" Mayumi twisted her long black hair in her fingers, scooting even further back in the sand, getting some stuck up her shorts and all over her skin, but the half Japanese girl did not care. "I will get you out of the net. I promise I won't hurt you." She did not know how else she could reassure the mer-girl that she was safe with her. There was even the change that there was a language barrier. "Um getting closer now, okay?" Mayumi stood up, brushed some sand off her butt and then slowly walked toward the struggling mermaid. "I'm knelling next to you now. Hold still." Mayumi studied the fishing net. It was wrapped around the poor girl so many times, there was no possible way she could just untie her. The rope would have to be cut. As luck would have it, Mayumi always carried around a first aid kit and a survival kit. She had learned never to go without them the hard way. "I have to cut the rope, miss. It's knotted and wrapped around you too many times." Mayumi pulled her backpack to her and started to shuffle through it until she found her survival kit. She opened the small plastic container and pulled out a pocket knife. She showed everything to the mermaid and let her watch what she was doing with the backpack. "Will you allow me to get close enough to free you?"
