why would wings be for decoration? they would give him a flying ability, its not that useful to fly, it only avoids short range damage. I could just limit the flying to near ground, or just make him not used to it, but getting rid of flying is not possible. The wings are not a main feature anyway.

He wont really use the wings, as they are odd and inhuman to him, but they are there, usable when need be. it kinda is just increased evasion/dodge.
