Nation Name: The Kingdom of Asgeir; the Varan Kingdom; Asgeir Flag: ~ Population: 1,100,000 Location on Map: Form of Government: Monarchy Head of State: King Torik Valgard (32): Torik is a tall wolfish man with long dark hair, a strong face, dark blue eyes, and a rough stubble. Years of training and combat has sculpted his body into a well-built athlete. He understands war, but his main concern is the prosperity of his kingdom. He may be a good man, but sometimes his idea of justice may seem harsh. Torik's wife died while giving birth to Gyda Valgard, his daughter and only child. Heir to State: Joric Valgard Important Political Characters: Gyda Valgard, Valius Valgard Capital: Stormhold Capital Population: 500,000 Capital Description: Stormhold was where the first Varan (descendants of Viking Raiders) landed. It was here the large force had constructed their camp. Over time the area became fortified and the dwellings became more permanent. Exploiting the nearby mines and resources, Stormhold would later become a notable city in the area. It is surrounded by an old stone wall, includes a harbor, a stone castle, and wooden/stone dwellings and shops. Location of Capital: (Blue on map) Other Major Towns: Westweald (Red on map) - 200,000; Westweald is an important harbor-city and is the second-largest city in the Kingdom of Asgeir. It is protected by a natural bay. River Fords (Green on map) - 150,000; Riverfords is a harbor-city that serves as a 'checkpoint' from Westweald to Stormhold. It is smaller than the two, but is still important. Vinewood (Yellow on map) - 50,000; Vinewood is an unimportant town with a small population that began as a trading post; it is hard to defend cause the forests that surround it make it easy for enemies to move in undetected. Jorfast (Purple on Map) -200,000; another harbor-town, just as important as Westweald. Traits Chosen: (Please list what traits you chose plus their cost.) Start Off Points +2 Professional Army -3 (The Varan of Asgeir are natural-born warriors like their Viking ancestors, and have been for most of their life. They are all raised to fight, even the women, and their hardowrking craftsmen forge the best materials in the land) Militias -1 (Many men and women throughout Asgeir will pick up arms and fight to protect their homes; they know no fear) Sealegs -1 (Like their Viking ancestors, the Varan are not strangers to the open waters) Strong Industry -2 (The Varan are master craftsmen, forging some of the best-made weapons and armor in the land. Their other goods are well-made and reliable) Off the Beaten Track +2 (Asgeir is a harsh and cold land, and many tend to not visit these lands) "I'm not racist but..." +/-0 (The Varan have always been paranoid and untrustworthy to outsiders) Holy Hell +3 (These Pagans stick to their pagan gods thick and thin and don't take kindly to other foreign religions) Social Dynamics: King Torik lives in his great hall with his family and his closest advisers. This collection of people is known as 'the King and his Men', or 'the Kingsmen' for short. They enjoy laughter, alcohol, servants-for-the-taking, and freshly-roasted meals. Below them are the Commonfolk; the commonfolk are typical laborers, workmen, farmers, miners, and craftsmen; in times of war they pick up arms and armor and fight for their King. Anyone else who does not fight are referred to as the Rabble and are not treated with honor or respect and mostly looked at as cowards. In fact, most servants are treated better than the Rabble. Religion: Pagans (Norse Gods), although King Torik is trying to convert his people to Christianity.
