[I][B]Last Life - Part 1[/B][/I]

[I]Back when I was sane, brain eaters were absent from everyone's awareness and most of us took our normal lives for granted. Those dead shits ruined a lot of things and they took over so easily. Ya see, people are so use to being safe that they forget that tragic things can happen unexpectedly. When people started to change, no one knew how to react and some mindless idiots even turned on each other. My dad guessed it was some sort of chemical attack from a third world country, but the government couldn't figure out who to blame. People accused government testing gone wrong for the spreading disease, because the president had no answer. Everyone thought that the government was trying to hide their mistake, until we found out that it was an international epidemic. States were quarantined and people were held against their will inside their own homes. That's when something very fucked up happened. Word got around that government officials and even the president evacuated the country, because the virus was getting out of hand. Ever since then, the military has become selfish, dicks who abuse their authority I heard. Most don't even know how many of us are left, because even those who die without physical infection come back with a hunger for living flesh. The bastard terrorists have attacked often thinking America was to blame. Our own kind are killing each other out of confusion and assumption and [B]their[/B] kind just keep growing. Feeding. My brother Josef showed us a way out of this shitty place after my foster parents and sister died a few days ago....It still hasn't hit me yet that they are really gone. I refuse to believe they are dead, but I can still feel an intense pain eating at my core that makes it impossible to fool myself even how hard I try. Our brother-n-law, Nathan, is along with us too. I use to hate his guts, but now I don't, because I've done something that could make him want to kill me if he knew. Something I can't even forgive myself for. I've tried to kill my sorry piece of shit self for awhile now, but I can't bring myself to finish. I should try one last time, because we're all just going to die anyway. They'll find out what I did in time. For now, my brothers and I found a place near the mountains here in Colorado where we can survive for the time being. It's nothin special, but it sure beats living in the hell hole that my sister use to call home.[/I] - [B]J[/B]

[B][u]Introduction[/u][/B]
[I]Day 1 -- Early Morning[/I]

- When the story starts out, a teen "boy" and a man later discovered to be [B]Joan[/B] and [B]Josef[/B], are sitting in a dimly lit room to discuss a private matter that has been tormenting Joan. Joan talks about how the world use to be and Josef tells her that they shouldn't look back, because it'll only make things worse as they try to move forward and survive. Josef tries to empathize with Joan about their past, but her emotions become more and more stirred and Josef realizes that she's going through something much worse than what they've experience together. After giving Joan an ultimatum, Joan reveals to him that she killed her foster sister [B]Laina[/B] who is also Josef's real sister. 

- Meanwhile, a lone survivor, [B]Chloe[/B], kept safe inside a motel room that she had stolen right when the world went to shit. She would stay there until she decided it was safe to venture out and find a new place to survive, but her food supply was poor and hunger drove her out sooner than she wanted. Her intentions were to return to the motel room after finding food and to stay there for as long as she possibly could, but her decision would change after she stepped foot into the nearest convenience store that had already been mostly ransacked. 

- Not too far off from the Motel, near the Pepsi center downtown, [B]Doctor Johnson[/B] kept himself hidden within an APC that would best protect him from the dead and the living. Johnson would then come out ever so often to scavenge off the dead and possibly venture out in hopes to find a better place to call home in the dying world. The conditions around him were like a warzone which made it far too dangerous to for him to escape his predicament, so he decided to send out an S.O.S that might could reach someone who could help him. 

- Back at the room where Joan & Josef are, Josef demands to know if Joan killed their sister on accident. Joan tells him that the reason was a complete accident, but she feels like a murderer, because she felt careless at the time after killing her. Her anger gets the best of her and Josef warns her to keep her voice down, because their brother-n-law, who was Laina's fiancé, might hear. Josef tries to explain to her that her emotions are just confusing her and he forgives her, because he can tell that she is tormenting herself over what she did. After discovering the self-inflicted cut marks down both of Joan's arms he realizes that she's a danger to herself and that he has to keep an eye on her at all times. 

[B][u]First Encounters[/u][/B]
[I]Day 1 -- Sunrise[/I]

- Josef leads Joan downstairs where breakfast awaits along with [B]Nathan[/B] (their brother-n-law) and a generous Hispanic family that took them in whenever the trio escaped Laina's house in Denver. After eating breakfast, Nathan asks both Joan and Josef which one of them will accompany him on their daily raid, but Josef demands that he and Joan go instead. Josef makes up a lie about knowing where weapons might be, so that he can really keep Joan in his sights and protect her from herself if need be. Nathan can't argue about going with him, because Josef reminds him that Joan had to stay last time to watch the family and it was only fair if she went this time.
