Characters
Pana was born to two waterbenders named Igaluk and Puja in the Northern Water Tribe, immediately following the death of Avatar Aang during Fire Lord Sozin’s attempted genocide of the Air Nomads. As the daughter of the chieftain of the Northern Water Tribe much was expected of Pana but understanding what role she was destined to play wouldn’t come until she was thirteen when she began having vibrant visions from her past lives that she was told were just imaginative night terrors by her father who unbeknownst to her was having difficulty coming to the terms that his daughter was the avatar for a myriad of reasons. This was about the time that Pana’s beliefs in spirituality began to grow and she spent many nights meditating among the Spirit Oasis and she even took trips to the nearby Spirit Forest to continuously calm herself. However it wasn’t long from there until her father announced to her that the likelihood of her being the next Avatar. In a way, Pana knew this somewhere and it made sense; but what didn’t make sense to her was the weight of responsibility and the contradictory training she was to receive. Before… she could only be taught waterbending to heal due to her gender and now she was being told “she was the exception” and in a fit of anxiety she voiced that she wasn’t ready to accept any of it. Her first meditation as the realized avatar led her to understand and partially deal with the weight that was put on her and she chose to accept it until she was nearly sixteen years of age and found herself traveling to the Southern Water Tribe. She found herself looking at the eye of a vicious raid; particularly the southern one. The deep sadness and quiet rage brought a trigger in Pana as she sought out a Southern-style waterbending mentor. She held this sadness and rage inside as she situated herself in the tribe for some time – during her travels in the south as she turned sixteen she came into a friendship with a girl by the name of Aluki, a southern style waterbender of comparable age to Pana. Aluki’s personality was different than Pana’s in every way and it only fit that she was like this because had lost her sister in one of the very first of the raids by the Fire Nation. Aluki then became Avatar Pana’s first traveling companion. Pana and Aluki left the Southern Water Tribe and began looking to the east – toward the Earth Kingdom and the ruins of the Air Nomad Temples. Pana’s animal companion is named Ulva and is an arctic fox.

Jian was born to an earthbender and nonbender named Liu Luotao and his wife, Feiyen, in the Earth Kingdom one year before Sozin’s attempted genocide of the Air Nomads. Jian then decided to further his ideals and enrich his knowledge by journeying to the far reaches of the Earth Kingdom to warn of his theories and find the hardest to find scrolls using the money he was allowed through his family’s economy.

Born the third son and fourth overall child of Fire Nation Nobility only a couple of years before the passing of Sozin's Comet, Takeshi was raised on a life of luxury and opulence, as his family held dominion over one of the Fire Nation's most beautiful locations; Ember Island. Other than his natural prowess at Kuai Ball, Takeshi's most notable trait growing up was that amongst his family, he was the only one to bear the gift of firebending. Although only two years old when Sozin's Comet finally passed near the Earth, the first sign of Takeshi's firebending ability came when the comet passed over Crescent Island. Embarassingly enough, Takeshi's mother still tells practically anyone who will listen how her son had coughed a few specks of fire during the event, even going so far as to say it was "prophetic" or "a sign of destiny". This drew a certain brand of childish jealousy from his elder brothers and sister, but Takeshi played no mind to them and often paraded his abilities around like the stereotypical entitled noble child outsiders no doubt saw him as, entirely naive to what was to become of him on his sixteenth birthday. During his education, Takeshi had taken a particular interest in theology and ancient history, and retained boyish fantasies of slaying a dragon like the legends of his country's fairytales. Unbeknownst to Takeshi, his father had volunteered his son to the order of Fire Sages, and used the excuse of tradition and honor to explain his betrayal. Forced from the only life he had ever known, Takeshi's first month on Crescent Island wasn't pleasant for anyone involved, as the young apprentice had taken it upon himself to be as difficult as possible. After many months and long conversations with his superiors, Takeshi eventually embraced the Order as his new home, the only major unresolved dispute remaining was where the Sages' loyalty would lie. Some of his brothers had accepted Sozin's ultimatum of absolute loyalty, while others still secretly held on to the hope that a new Avatar would emerge. Takeshi is one of the few apprentices that holds on to that hope, having been taught the ancient duties of his order by the Great Sage, himself one of the decenters. Takeshi has yet to take his monastic vows within the halls of the Ancient Temple within the Fire Nation's Capital. The most recent news Takeshi has received from his family is that his elder sister, Ilah, whom he could say he was most likely closest to amongst his siblings, had been arranged to marry Prince Azulon.

text
