He was a young king at age 52 who took over the crown when his grandmother passed away, since his mother had died giving birth to his brother and he had no uncles or aunts. He wished for people to live happily and peacefully and had naïve thinking about how the world worked. He blindly trusted others and believed that everybody was capable of good, even the worst of criminals, and pardoned many prisoners. He had absolute faith in his little brother Belzebub, who he cherished, but it was ultimately what led to his downfall. Belphegor received a prophecy from Oz showing his death, and though he was shaken by his vision, he chose to ignore it because he believed there was no possible reason his brother would want to murder him. Unfortunately for him, the vision came true, and he died at 70 years old when Belzebub attacked him with dark magic. He banned dark magic and alchemy, even though he secretly practiced dark magic himself, but it was because he wanted to be the only person who knew how to use them. He eventually locked all of books on the forbidden magic in the castle’s library so that nobody but he or his descendants could access the information. He also banished his enemies to working in underground mines in secret so that they could supply for minerals and ore for the royal treasury. He had created the underground area in secret during his brother’s rule and it was not until all of the ores and jewels were mined that people stopped being forced to work in the mines. Belzebub refused to let them return to the surface, however, and he continued sending criminals there to live for the rest of their lives and used the underground area as a prison instead. The community grew larger and larger until it became an underground city named The Under, born of rejects, criminals, and descendants of prisoners. Belzebub’s mother died while giving birth to him so he always told himself that he was born a murderer. His grandmother had to prepare Belphegor for when he eventually took the crown, so Belzebub was allowed to do whatever he wanted and in his free time he eventually discovered dark magic. He had no problems sacrificing animals and other frowned upon acts in order to utilize the terrible spells. Belzebub constantly craved more power and he crafted a plan to kill his own brother and become king after he saw a prophecy of Oz of him murdering Belphegor and successfully succeeding the throne. The only one who figured out that he killed King Belphegor was Angerri Apollos, one of his brother’s closest friends. To keep the secret safe, Angerri became the first wizard to be banished to the underground mines by Belzebub. The law stating a prince or princess must be married to become king or queen was not yet in place when Belzebub became king, so he ruled alone until he was married at the age of 105. He was king until he died of old age at 185 and his daughter became queen. She was much kinder than her father and tried to rule fairly, but since she believed that everyone sent to The Under were criminals, she and all rulers after her forbid anybody from The Under to return to the surface.
