His coarse speech is reminiscent of a soldier or a dockworker. He speaks his mind with minimal regard for who is around to hear it, bearing his opinions openly and proudly. Devoted to his friends David will throw himself into harms way without hesitation to help his precious people. In his own words, “If I say you’re my friend I mean it. You could come into my house and fuck my sister. Not that I have one but still, it’s the thought that counts.” He hates his biological family with a passion. Background: David hails from the family behind the influential Cain transport corporation, from great coastal city of Mokum-am-Amster. During his childhood he first appeared to be growing up into what his parents wanted, right up until his age twelve. It was then that the family of his best friend Jakob fell from grace, their own financial empire collapsing nearly overnight in the crisis of ‘49. All of a sudden David was prohibited from seeing Jakob because the boy was now ‘beneath his status’. The incident marked the start of his teenaged rebellion years. Together with a few other friends David often snuck out and visited Jakob anyway, as well as generally doing his best to be just barely obedient enough to not get punished. At sixteen his father had had enough of the troublesome teen pushing his boundaries and sent him to a boot camp for troubled teens with the intent to ‘instill some discipline’ into his psyche. At the camp out into the western wastes, David quickly made friends with the more rebellious teens there. It was during one of their escape attempts that they encountered a troop of soldiers spying on and making fun of the misery the boys were in. ‘Sacrificing’ himself, David distracted the troop while his friends continued to make a run for it. While they were all caught and returned to camp eventually, David’s courage and willingness for self-sacrifice impressed the corporal in charge of the squad. After a long heart to heart talk with the woman, as well as seeing how the soldiers treated one another, David changed. His behaviour became muted. His act straightened out. Though still not the model son his parents hoped for, David ceased to make endless trouble for no good reason. Right up until his eighteenth birthday, upon which he ran away from home and enlisted in the air force. Just barely old enough to qualify for service, David aced the entry exam and qualified for fighter pilot. As the corporal had told him years ago, occasionally it’s best to wait before you make your move. And no matter how influential the Cain family was, they could not just pluck him out of the airbase he was training at. Then once it had become clear he possessed the qualities required of a guardian all of a sudden he was shipped off to the mystical forests where the elves lived. Given he has had to give up the dream job of a fighter pilot for this, he hopes guardianship is as good as the rumours say it is.

Name: Kalo Nightwing Age: 24 Gender: Male Race: Western Dragonkin Elemental Affinity: Darkness Description: In his 'human' guise, Kalo is just a bit over six feet, though it’s usually quite rare to find Kalo standing at his full height. He usually slouches a bit making himself seem smaller than he actually is. Plenty of people have mistaken the lone and slim male to be easy prey, but his frame bellies the strength almost every member of his race has. The usual defining traits of a Dragonkin have all been hidden quite well by Kalo, and he’s more often mistaken for a human. Anyone smart enough would realise his true nature by the red glow of his eyes though. Under his heavy clothes are more signs; scales cover most of his limbs and neck, while sharp claws tip his fingers rather than nails, and his hair obscures the pointed and scaled tips of his ears. As a dragon, he is barely considered more than a whelpling amongst Dragonkin, and his transformation reflects this; being quite small. At only about a meter and a half in height, nine in length, and with a wingspan of fifteen, he’s a far cry from the great wyrms of legend. Unlike others of his kind, Kalo only has scales on the underside of his body. In exchange for this loss of natural armor, he’s more lithe than an average Dragonkin, and can move in and under water swiftly. Personality: A kind person at heart, being exiled has nevertheless left Kalo mistrustful of strangers and acquaintances alike, and he holds most at a distance. While polite, he generally doesn’t stick around long enough for people to get to know him. Add on the fact that he’s a man of little words, and well it’s not too easy for most people to approach him, especially when he takes notice and a pair of flaming eyes turn their way. Kind doesn’t mean a pushover though, and if needed Kalo isn’t afraid to get violent. He’ll likely try to avoid conflict as best as he can, but sometimes there’s just no getting away. He doesn’t see himself as a hero, but he does try to help others out when he can. Interfering with that is generally one of the best ways to see his true nature. Background: Kalo was born into a clan of Dragonkin that, though small in numbers, was known for their beauty and magical ability. Almost every member was colored with their affinity for magic, resulting in a majestic sight when every member took flight. White and black were unique in that there were only ever one present in the clan at anytime, the reason unknown. The White Drake would naturally be praised while the Black Drake ostracized, despite the best attempts to treat them no differently. The scars of the Thousand Year War simply ran too deep, even at the possibility of alienating someone who would wield the same power. While not all of the clan hated a child who had committed no crime, there were those who took their ire out on him. The two sides never came into direct conflict, and their presences struck an uneven balance. Those who targeted him could never act too rashly, but those who supported him weren’t capable of fully stopping what actions were taken. It wasn’t easy, but there wasn’t anything that really drove Kalo to leave his ‘home’, not yet anyways. Up until he was old enough to be called an actual ‘drake’, there wasn't much indication of his magical affinity aside from his coloration. With the coming of age came the usual ceremony as well though, a Dragonkin’s first transformation and with it came irrefutable proof of his affinity. For their clan, transformations were accompanied by a nova of magic, a sign of their strong ties with magic. Elder Wyrms could literally freeze the air around them or scorch the earth by simply assuming their ‘true form’, but that is besides the point. With Kalo’s first assumption of his dragon form, a wave of darkness rolled over those who attended. His supporters, friends, and family were unnerved at the eerie sensation. Those who already hated the power he held? It was enough to drive some into a rage, one that would end when he laid dead. It wasn’t a bloodbath that turned clan members upon one another, but Kalo fled for his life while those who wanted him dead were held at bay. Lost at what to feel, Kalo wandered aimlessly. The brief taste of flight and the freedom it brought was enough that he didn’t wish to lose such a form, yet with it came a painful reminder of why he had lost almost everything. In the end he resigned himself to suppressing more and more of his Dragonkin nature to blend in with the humans. His tail and wings eventually all but disappeared after a few years, while other features receded enough to be concealed by heavy clothing. His eyes were forever changed though, and now blazed with inhuman fire. The suppression of what was natural came at a cost though, transformation was now even more difficult for him than normal, but it didn’t bother Kalo all too much. He lived amongst the humans for the most part, he rarely needed to bring out his ‘true form’. And as the years passed by without much incident, Kalo had long pushed his old clan and the incident to the back of his mind. Yet a Black Drake is never forgotten, even if left alone. He didn't know how they found him, but his old tormentors were clear enough when they dropped from the sky. “Go to the Guardians.”

Name: Nari Age: Immortal Gender: Female Race: Fairy Elemental Affinity: Fae Personality: Nari is, at her core, a mischievous little imp. She always seems to find the lighter side of every situation and is rarely without a grin or a laugh. She has an insatiable love for fun and the world around her. Background: Since creation, Nari has spent all her time playing amounts the creature deep in the forest. Always a flake, she avoided people and responsibility and just did whatever she wanted. Her elusiveness meant that she avoided becoming involved in the Thousand Year War. It was only after the fact that she even became aware there had been a war. The fact that Humans had used such dark magics against her own kind worried her somewhat, and she began to involve herself more in the affairs of the world outside her own little personal playground. She quickly became aware of the Guardians and, when Alivari founded the Academy, she opted to join, mostly out of curiosity.

Name: Serami "Sera" Lisaan Age: 19 Gender: Female Race: Elf Elemental Affinity: Fire Personality: - A young girl ruled by her passions - Likes to do what she wants and resents being told otherwise - Can sometimes act without thinking - Is very interested in Humans Background: Sera grew up in a village near the edge of the forest and always heard many stories about the humans. Craving adventure she trained as a hunter so that she would be allowed to stay away from her village and explore. It was during these little adventures of hers that she was able to go to the extreme border of the forest, despite the elder's warnings, and sometimes catch glimpses of humans in the distance. She was never brave enough to actually leave the forest however and the humans never dared approach the forest, thus her curiosity about these people, who were so like elves but so different, remained unfulfilled. Then she learned that the leader of the famed Guardians was founding an Academy to train new Guardians, where even humans would be allowed to attend. Sera didn't hesitate to volunteer, against the village Elder's wishes, and left immediately for the Academy.
