Heh, ninja-ing me, are we ;)
I had it in mind that it would have been a fantasy, though it's always open to changes. Early stages and all that! Though I don't see it making much difference either way, as demons and dark gods aren't going to be too into technology. The only thing it will really affect will be the mortal world. Okay, and I like the idea of gathering some form of resource through influence in the mortal world. I think it would be even cooler if said resources were gained through interaction relevant to each god, so only a god of war and bloodshed or death would benefit from mindlessly killing humans, a god of plague would benefit more from infecting the world with disease, and a god of hedonistic desires and secrets would benefit from infiltrating human social structures and working their way up the mortal chain of command. The only thing I am a bit dubious about is how such 'influence' would be counted as an actual resource, and how this would limit creative freedom in players. Using a system like this also means one has to think about a rate of actual troop production and function of various buildings when every faction is going to have different buildings. bearing in mind that each 'nation' per se is not really a nation, but a whole plane of existence and reality, building individual buildings wouldn't fit too well into the feel of things. I definitely want things to be more on the creative side, and less on the strict side.
And yes, being a God of an abstract concept would be awesome if played right! And i'm all down for a mortal world too! I was thinking that all the Nation Sheets would detail the Gods, the Realms, it's denizens and it's greater demons / champions and such. Don't you worry about creativity begin stifled by a lack of demonic champions!
