Just do understand if you write a POV of "totally-not-a-pirate-at-all-honest" that so far my idea on cannons are very primitive (I know, you'd think in this amount of time they'd be at least early imperial age tech, but lol) to the equivalent of early feudal era. Though I might have the people from the arabic/african-esque continent have some grasp of the concept. Hard to decide since I don't even know if gunpowder has been invented/discovered yet. I do like the idea of people approaching stories in this field of adventure and such though so don't think I'm discouraging anyone. =DI'm trying to think how you'd intend to do a soldier's POV, so that's a curious idea given there are plenty of places for soldiers to be stationed. You see that stretch of land over the Sea of Echoes that Perhyr owns? It's held to be a sort of lookout for pagan raiders ("not-wildlings/freefolk/vikings"), there's no grandoise wall (great wall, etc.) but there are plenty of forts and small stretches of stone or palisade walls probably though.
Oh...I'll find a way. XD Maybe just go with a city guard or royal guard, but still a soldier nonetheless. And about the gunpowder thing...I dunno, you could have gunpowder weapons be slow, inaccurate without expensive and custom machining and sometimes downright dangerous for the user.
