Jeanne R. Cortez Bright red hair, captains' clothes, and one heck of an accent- those three traits easily distinguished Jeanne R. Cortez from the others. The fine, old man who came up to address what people liked to call an "opening ceremony" delivered a speech that, somehow, made her feel motivated. Jeanne R. Cortez, the pirate captain of the Screaming Pearl, had come to Athalia Academy for many reasons. After many years of sticking with her undead "family," she found the invitation that one of her crewmates found lying on the ship. This invitation was a chance for her to experience a life more related to that of a human's. She never really lived a proper life as a human, so this particular academy seemed like a good quick fix to that. Cortez also wanted to spread the name of the Screaming Pearl, in which she took pride in as its captain. She herself did not know whether she would be able to successfully gain respect or rivals from it, but she at least wanted others to know that not all undead were bad people. After all, despite being fully human, her crew mates treated her as if she were one of them. And her father gave her many opportunities in learning valuable lessons. She was living proof of their kindness, though not a single one of them knew why they were even un-alive in the first place. With that said, she was surprised when she entered the cafeteria. Blimey! I'm still baffled to see this many landlubbers... Landlubbers like me! And with the same kind of flesh! Well, most of them, that is, aye! Cortez looked around, wondering what she should do in the cafeteria. Before she came here, she learnt all kinds of vocabulary and knowledge to be able to fit in with society, but she was still a little rough around the edges. Her eyes fell upon a particular food. It was inevitable that she brought pancakes out of the lunch line. "No things shall avast me from delighting myself with these 'pancake' things!" Cortez exclaimed, happily staring at her food like a child as she stood still. "Hm, hm! Now..." ... "...Uh..." Cortez simply stood, blinking out of slight embarrassment. Sink me! She thought, feeling a little nervous in the midst of people around her. I have no idea on where to bilge my anchor at! She looked around like a lost cat for a few seconds. Her eyes then sparkled magnificently as she became exuberant again. "I know!" She said to herself. "I can always just...!" A few seconds later, she was sitting alone at a table. "Just... sit alone...? Curses..." The pirate captain slightly pushed her food away from her to plant her face on the table. A pirate captain who found many undiscovered treasures... was sitting alone with foods she never tasted before. She slowly pulled her head up, staring at a group of people talking with each other. There was a particular man she spotted. He was the same person the vice principal pointed at during the opening ceremony. Would people eventually crowd around her like they did to him? He looked like a happy magnet to her, persistently carrying a friendly mood. Even now, he seemed cheery, though he had already finish his food. Cortez felt blood enter her cheeks a little too quickly after staring at him for a substantial amount of time. She dug her face back onto the table before sitting back up. With a determined, yet somewhat dejected mood, the pirate captain simply mumbled to herself, "W-Well, not everything goes according to plan immediately, right?" She asked herself, laughing a little before staring at the pancakes in front of her. "I just need a little more time, aye!" With that in mind, Cortez proceeded to quietly eat her food, silently praising the chef for making some sort of godsend miracle she never encountered before.
