Pondsforge is a large town with a thriving community. Lying unassumingly on its outskirts sits a large, grand yet otherwise uninteresting manor. Everyone in Pondsforge knew about its history: once upon a time, Bush Hall served as the residency to William Bush, a wealthy aristocrat who had the lavish home built as a rural retreat. When the first plans to start a new settlement nearby were announced, Bush did his absolute best to stop 'Pondsforge' from happening. Obviously, his efforts proved futile, and within a few years his view of the rolling hills featured a new addition: a small collection of neat houses. It was not too much of an inconvenience after all, he had mused as he realised that he had perhaps been overreacting before. As it turned out, he was wrong. Every year, the town grew more and more - as did the noise, traffic and pollution that came with it. And as it grew, Bush's view from his dream house became less and less perfect. Eventually, the wealthy man simply abandoned the house and was rumoured to have moved further North. And there the house sat, unoccupied for centuries. More recently - about twenty years ago - the house was purchased overnight by a mysterious man not local to the town. It was rumoured that he was an intensely private man, who desired Bush Hall primarily for its tall walls and situation away from the town itself. Within weeks, building work began and the house was soon restored to its prime condition, before a sign was erected by the wrought iron gates. "FARAWAY ACADEMY OF EXCELLENCE", it read in golden type. Underneath, a subtext read "School of learning for exceptionally gifted and talented youths." The novelty of having such a prestigious and esteemed academy in the town soon wore off when the parents of Pondsforge realised that none of their children met the criteria for a place at Faraway. Frustrated mothers inundated the school with calls, letters and E-mails in vain attempts to convince the board that their child was something special. And yet, it seemed like not a single child in Pondsforge attended the academy. The truth is, some of the towns residents were indeed quite special. But they simply were not special enough for a school like Faraway. You see, the special gifts that Faraway is concerned about do not involve mathematics or science or language... Faraway are interested in something much more special: superpowers. For the past 25 years, Michael Faraway and his team of experts have been helping young people with extraordinary gifts - people like you - to hone and shape their extraordinary gifts. And in its quarter-centennial year, you are a new student at the school. You will attend classes and workshops to help you control your talents, meet new friends to explore the grounds with and potentially uncover some of the academy's secrets. For not all is as it seems; previously privately-funded by Faraway himself, the school has run out of funds. This year, a new sponsor has stepped forth to help the school's doors stay open... But at what cost? ------ tl;dr: Super-school roleplay that will deal with an underlying plot as well as the usual classes/social events that come with this kind of RP. It is not sandbox but there will definitely be plenty of opportunities to freestyle. I think the most interesting element of school-based RPs is their potential for multi-strand narratives, and I would love to explore the different story lines that each character has to offer.
